Chuckadian
I have a minor exhaust leak at the flange between the header and cat #1. I also keep getting a cel p0420 which is the oxygen sensor. Could my sensor be just fine and the leak is causing the code or are the two unrelated? By leak I mean I am getting the "pebbles in a can" sound. 97 lgt with uel headers. Thanks!
ehsnils
Fix the leak first, then you can start worry about the code if it still remains. Leaks are always causing things to go off from normal and can result in all kind of strange effects.
98quiksilvergt
It is a possibility. If the leak is bad enough the sensor will get an incorrect reading.

I Donated broknindarkagain Posted September 16, 2010 I Donated Share Posted September 16, 2010 An exhaust leak will cause an o2 sensor code. If you're leaking exhaust before your sensor, your sensor is going to give a false reading. If the leak is bad enough - the reading will be outside of specs -- making your check engine light come on. -broknindarkagain My Current Project - Click Here COME AND TAKE IT "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
