CCSubaru Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I was wondering about the new turbo kit for our car coming out and if once it's installed it's at all upgradable? Like BOV, bigger FMIC etc. or is it just install the kit and forget it?

Like BOV, bigger FMIC etc. or is it just install the kit and forget it? well you have to account for the existing (your stock Ej253) and if it will handle the upgrade. A louder BOV isn't an issue if the kit comes with one and the ECU knows about it, if it comes with a BPV you will need to tune for the blow off (simple task). As far as upgrading the turbo you will need to upgrade other aspects of your car i.e. fuel system, injectors, etc which is something the owner (You) can choose to do or not. Ive seen the AVO kits for the RS MAP based guys running for 30K miles now no problems so you can bet they have put together the right kit and you shouldn't need to do much more, except a clutch

apexjapan Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 We'll be trying a few different things, we have to see how far it would go with the stock injectors and fuel pump first, or if it will even go far enough. The next hurdle will be the fact that the stock motor is higher compression than a turbo motor, which also will limit the ultimate boost you can use. The turbocharger should be more than enough for anything you can run through that motor. The FMIC is actually very large - you'd need to be running something past a cosworth 2.5 longblock with a very big turbocharger to be worried about that! CCSubaru Posted July 30, 2010 Author Posted July 30, 2010 Thanks for the info Paul. Keep reppin us N/A people. I'm definitely in for this kit I think the extra umph even for the 4EAT owners like me is worth the money!
apexjapan Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 Well, one of the plans for the car involves towing a trailer to events, so I'd like the extra torque alone! Regards, Paul Hansen http://www.avoturboworld.com
silverado1026 Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 i look forward for the kit to come out. i will def be getting one

apexjapan Posted August 23, 2010 Posted August 23, 2010 Nah - a kit will be here for certain in time for an install, tune, test and for it to be driven 20 hours straight to Subiefest! Regards, Paul Hansen http://www.avoturboworld.com
GEE-OTTO Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Nah - a kit will be here for certain in time for an install, tune, test and for it to be driven 20 hours straight to Subiefest! Regards, Paul Hansen www.avoturboworld.com You sneaky little rascal You need to ive had 17 separate PM's about turbo kits with respects to a certain GD Turbo kit that once was prevalent but know extinct. Wanting to know how much trouble it would be to adapt it to a late gen GD or a BL non turbo
apexjapan Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Problem with the late gen cars is the intake manifold changes, which made it impossible to use the TMIC, which mandated a switch to a FMIC setup. Which is one of the factors in our decision to create the new kit with a FMIC setup instead of a TMIC setup. So the kit *could* have been a little cheaper if it was possible to use a TMIC, but factor in the cost of a new hood and paint, and a TMIC kit would have been more expensive in the end. GEE-OTTO Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 Yeah I fully understand the choices AVo has made. Side Note: The AVO GD ktis are so insanely flawless! I rode in a 2002 RS this wknd with the AVO kit, all stock everything, and it pulled like a new WRX. Popped the hood and it looks so natural on the engine. The owner has had it for a little over 20k miles (about 3 years he said) and no issues hasn't touched it since install says it feels liek it came that way from SOA. IF the newer kits live up to that they shall sale
silverado1026 Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 so when are we looking at it being available for purchase? gotta start saving now haha
