New Suspension Setup Review- Bilstein HDs w/ RS-R Springs

Well having decided I didn't like the coilover route, I sold the ISC coilovers I had on my car, and replaced them with some Bilstein HDs. The used HDs I picked up came with some RS-R Ti2000 springs and Spec B tophats. Overall impression after the first day of driving them is that this setup is exactly what I was looking for.

This setup, with the addition of the previously installed Rallitek F&R swaybars, is how I wish the car would've felt from the factory. The RS-R springs, though very low, ride as near to stock as any aftermarket spring i've ever ridden on. They're quiet, comfortble, and seem to handle well from the limited driving i've done so far. The car just feels much more solid to me, with more confidence going into turns. Overall, i'd recommend this setup to anyone who wants a more dramatic drop, and retain the majority of their ride characteristics.

The only thing i've noticed with this setup which I find weird are the rear springs. I was expecting to have some saggy-butt post installation, but i've got the complete opposite. Before the install, on the stock struts, the top center of all four struts was almost exactly the same, at 26". Now, the two fronts are sitting down just about 24.75", and the rears have barely dropped at all, they're both barely under 26". I'm hoping the rears settle a bit more at least. The fronts seems to have settled a bit, but the rears not at all. Right now, i'd say its about at the limit as far as looks go, I wouldn't want the front any lower because I don't want a raked stance. Any thoughts as to why this could be?

Pics to come.

Thanks for the review. I'm settled on the HDs, but not sure what springs to use. Looking better handling then factory without riding like a go cart. This helps a bit ;).

Hmm.. didn't know about these springs. Looks like they might give a similar drop to the S-Techs but with better ride quality? That's about the height I was going for, my Swifts I think are a bit higher in the front but about the same in the rear. Can't imagine what those springs would look like if you weren't running spec-b top hats.

Funny that you posted this thread, I was planning (and probably still will) on posting a thread with my impressions after going from MR coilovers to HDs/Swifts with some pictures of the damage I believe was caused by the MRs.

Yeah i'd never heard of the springs myself prior to buying them. They we're just the springs tha the previous owner of the Bilsteins were running. I did a small amount of research about them and from a couple of older threads I read on here, it seems these springs are more mainstream/popular in the Japanese market. I believe one thread I saw even said that they are (or were) the #3 best selling spring over there, after Swifts and STi Pinks. Aside from being very low, which probably turns away many prospective American buyers, I think they're a perfect for the car.
