Blackheat68 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Hey my Lgt will not stay running unless I keep the RPMS right around 1000. If I go any lower the engine will just stall out. This started happening this morning after I got back from a 3 hour drive. Ive checked the cables on the throttle body and I have no CELs. The motor sounds nice and quiet. Im thinking it may be my fuel filter, maybe fuel pump or vacuum leak? I know some WRXs are known to have problems with the IACV but Im not sure about the BD legacys Anyone else have the same problem? Also when I was on the highway a HUGE possum ran in front of my car and I nailed it dead on Maybe it knocked a sensor out but I would assume my dash would light up but maybe not? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
worknlikeadog Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 sounds like IACV or dirty air filter or fuel filter
JimmEh Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 check your intake too. if it was leaking air after the MAF it could do the same.
worknlikeadog Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Do you have a Cold Air Intake? Or a Cone filter???
subikid90 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Your check engine light could be bad. Plug it into a code reader and double check. I would say fuel filter or vac leak somewhere -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
kaz98gt Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Id replace the fuel filter just for the hell of it; it probably hasn't been done in a long time and is gummed up, and it's really cheap. But I don't think that's your issue...sounds like a vacuum leak. Do you hear any leaking air or a whooshing sound when you pop the hood?
Blackheat68 Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 Well I just replaced the air filter a few minutes ago and checked for vacuum leaks... Not the problem. Ill be changing the fuel filter within the hour, hopefully that solves my problem. Thank you all for the help and if anyone else has some advice I'd love to hear it! Ill keep yall updated!
Blackheat68 Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 and kaz I dont hear any whooshing sounds but I just kept my foot on the throttle to keep it running and began to smell gas. Fuel filter? I hope!
Blackheat68 Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 Well I figured out what was wrong after I blew some cash at autozone. Once I replaced my air and fuel filter and my idle was still non existent I unplugged the MAF and tried starting my car...VOILA it ran like a wet dream.(you know what I mean) Now I just have to buy a new MAF gaaaahhhhrrrrrrr
subikid90 Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 I had to buy a new one a while ago also. I don't know If the MAF was causing all of the issues with idling though.Make sure to buy a bosch sensor. The napa ones don't work. Plus I found my bosch for $50 cheaper. BTW: did you have and codes? You had to have one if your MAF is bad. -Subikid90 1997 Legacy GT 5spd & EJ251 w/EJ25D heads ~10.5CR 1998 Legacy GT Limited waiting for EJ22T hybrid swap
kaz98gt Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Check under the steering wheel; if you see any wires unplugged, that's gotta be it. It could've been cut way before you owned the car, and just become important once you needed it (when the maf cut out after the 3hr drive or sometime around that). Did you throw a code when it was unplugged?
Blackheat68 Posted July 28, 2010 Author Posted July 28, 2010 When it was unplugged it threw a code and started up fine. I plugged it back it and oddly it starts up fine but I do have a code. The car wouldnt start with it plugged in until I tried starting it without the MAF plugged in.
Blackheat68 Posted July 28, 2010 Author Posted July 28, 2010 Thanks for the help guys and Ill have to check for cut wires today
Blackheat68 Posted July 29, 2010 Author Posted July 29, 2010 Started her up today perfectly and ran fine all day and with no CEL! WOOHOO!
Blackheat68 Posted July 29, 2010 Author Posted July 29, 2010 I guess the fuel and air filter did the trick!
gathermewool Posted July 31, 2010 Posted July 31, 2010 Probably justa corroded contact on the MAF. I'd buy a can of MAF cleaner (and only MAF cleaner) and douche'er down nice and good. I'd also spray a little on the plug and connector contacts, let it dry and then reconnect. Move the plug around a little bit to hopefully remove any remaining corrosion. If that doesn't work, blow on that shit Nintendo style! '15 FB25 Magnatec 0W-20 + FU filter (70,517 miles) RSB, Fr. Strut Bar, Tint, STI BBS, LED er'where
