Show me your aftermarket NAV

So i'm looking to add navigation to my GT. I've seen the double din thread, but don't really need a whole in-dash unit. I'd rather just run a less-expensive aftermarket nav. I've also seen the interior thread, and haven't seen anyone who's running just your standard, run-of-the-mill, aftermartet navigation system (garmin, tomtom, etc.). I'm looking for ideas of how to mount one, specifically what mount you're using and the wiring you've done. What I would like to do with mine is as follows:

- "Hard" wire it so it turns off and on with the car

- No visible/hanging wires

- No suction cup on the window mount

- Look as OEM as possible

I'm sure there are some of you who have done with with your cars, post up some pics and what hardware you're using. Also post up what nav you're using and how you like it.

Probably more than you were looking for.., but I'm running a 7" Kenwood touch screen in a hacked cubby hole with the Kenwood (Garmin) nav box tucked under the passenger seat. The unit is hard wired into my stereo power distrubter for the amp and grounded so a passanger can use the navigation while the car is in motion.

that does look really good. Forgot to mention, however, that I have gauges mounted in my cubby, so that's not an option for me.

Oh well that could be a problem, lol. I can't say I've seen any on here that have met your criteria without utilizing the cubby.

Garmin in place of the cubby and I think this is a cheep mod.

Cut the cross beam that separates the cubby form the trip computer.

Then I made some plastic inserts to hold the 7" Garmin at more of an upright angle. With out the plastic inserts the LDC would face at an upwards angle.

Don't mind the slots. Those were just in the plastic I used. I used a stackable mail trey because it had the bend I needed for the corners.

So now the GPS simply rests against the brackets I made and rests on the bottom as well.

I used the two top screw mounts for the vent and added one at the bottom with this V bracket that I made.

I have an iPhone and AV cord to plug into the LCD. At some point I hope to find a GPS with a video out that I can hook up to the LCD.

I will add more photos when I am finished.

Ok so i ditched the LCD and added a 7" Garmin that has video in.

And this is where I moved the trip computer.

WOW! I love where you put the trip computer. I've made about 5 different trim pieces when I moved my trip computer and I'm still not happy with the "hacked" look. I might give this a try!

Thanks!

Do you happen to have any more photos of this? I'm curious as to how you mounted it and what angle you put it at? Did you have to trim down the part that sticks out for the power/data connection?

I ended up going with a garmin nav unit which will be mounted via a pro clip mounting system. I'll update with pics when I get everything installed.

I can vouch for those Pro-clip mounts. They're solid as hell!

Here's my latest install. I've still gotta fill in the gap above the NAV unit. And I use the Pro-clip for my phone.

Well here's what I settled on:

Garmin 265WT "hard" wired on a proclip mount. Mclaren was right, these mounts are solid as hell and well worth the money. Gives the whole install a very sturdy and oem look. See the whole review and more pics here: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/my-car-thread-137480.html?p=3061936

I do not have more photos. I screwed in a piece of angles soft bendable metal and clipped it into the edge of the headliner. I did have to make an extension cord for the computer as well.

Thanks for the update. I do prefer it up there for sure. Will be doing that conversion once I can source a new shifter surround to replace my current one.
