HarryN Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Around 5:00 am... loud noise, felt crazy shaking, woke up, heard a weird noise like a low pitched humming deep bass, then disappears and the shaking stops. Everyone wakes up wonders wtf that was. Did anyone else feel that? I felt this in the Hidden Valley Lane/Old Columbia Pike/Fairland Road area. Spoke with a couple neighbors that were outside as well. They felt it too.
HarryN Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 Holy shit!!! It was an earthquake!!!!!! 3.4!!! Edit: it was a 3.7. Felt all the way down to Virginia!
TheWeatherWarrior Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Well, that was fun. 3.6 earthquake with epicenter basically IMBY (Gaithersburg, MD). Was a nice bang and shutter that woke me up and freaked the cat out (who was outside). http://www.weatherwarrior.net/blog/photos/earthquake_20100716_0504z.JPG
HarryN Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 LOL! Nice! Well, getting ready for work now. Sure woke my ass up.
RuskiTrombone Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Apologize to anyone that felt that. My stomach was acting up.
HarryN Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 Looks like it is the topic of the day at work.
Abandonhope16 Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Yup, felt it. I already happened to be awake; I thought it was an explosion.

Tangra Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Sweet, i was actually in the car on the way to work. I thought i got a little sideways pulling out on to Georgia but I just assumed I gave it too much gas.
GetErDun Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 We eat 3.7's all day in cali! Try sleeping through a 7.0 (Northridge Quake), I did. Infamous Tuned
TheWeatherWarrior Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 We eat 3.7's all day in cali! Try sleeping through a 7.0 (Northridge Quake), I did. USGS said that CA wouldn't even have felt a 3.6. Because of the make-up of the ground, that this quake was "mid-plate", etc. we had a decent jolt. I suspect our 3.6 was more like a 5.5 or so in Cali. News crews are running all around Gaithersburg and Germantown. I think my car ended up on ch.5 I think. Not sure if it was a live shoot or not.
Gire Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 slpet right trhrough that shit... Sissies.. ROFLCOPTER +1 3.7 is big news? Srsly? Don't bother traveling to Japan. Or California.
c-lo Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 considering we haven't had one "this strong" in 30 years yes it was big news. I've never been in one. It was pretty interesting. I mean I was in bed half awake when I felt it. back a few hundred yards from our house is a hug propane tank buried under ground that services our houses. at first I thought it blew up or something. but while standing at the window I could feel the floor vibrating. for someone whose never been in one it was interesting. and then I went back to bed for an hour. +1 3.7 is big news?
