deebsr6 Posted July 6, 2010 Posted July 6, 2010 So the turbo went on my sisters 05 LGT. This is the second one to go on it and this one only lasted 15,000 miles. We got the car used after the first turbo was replaced under warranty prior to buying it. I first realized it was down on power about a 1000 miles ago and just figured maybe its because I was used to my car and since we had 4 other people in the car it felt slow. There was no weird noises or anything abnormal except for down on power. She then continued to drive it for a while and then noticed that upon start up there was some smoke coming out of the exhaust. I had her drive it home from upstate where she lives now and in the 250 mile drive it burned a quart of oil. I figured something was up and I was hoping it was just a really badly stuck open pcv valve. So I pulled the intercooler off to check it and saw a ton of metal shavings on where the bpv meets the intercooler. I figure its from the banjo bolt screen getting clogged and starving the turbo of oil. Now im trying to figure out what would have to be done now to fix this. I stopped by Metric Subaru today and they gave me an estimate of $6,000. They are saying to replace the block, turbo, oil cooler, oil pan and a few other odds and ends. Im thinking thats a little much but I am not sure. If anyone can help let me know. Thanks
ebondragon87 Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 6K?!? I'd tell them to go pound sand. A turbo is about a grand, all the lines and oil pan need to be cleaned. As far as i know alot of guys remove the screen from the banjo bolt. There is no reason to justify a new block or oil pan. I can see the cooler i guess.
HarryN Posted July 7, 2010 Posted July 7, 2010 Just remove the screen. It will be added security. Normally people do not drive in Sand Dunes or what have you, with this car. Just be glad you do not have an 08-09. The banjo bolt is a pain to get to. Ugh...
deebsr6 Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 Hey guys so we ended up replacing the turbo through the another dealer and it still burns oil and yada yada. Now to the fun part. Sister was driving it gave it some gas to merge heard what she said sounded like chaines rattling and loss of power. Tore it apart today and found this in the pic below. There was no screen in the banjo bolt since we told them not to put it in last time. Any one have anyideas on what may have caused it this time? only 30,000 miles on it. There where metal shavings all on the inside of the turbo inlet.http://i409.photobucket.com/albums/pp172/deebsr6/IMG_0283.jpg
