sks76239 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Just bought my 2005 Legacy 2.5i about 3 months ago and I'm loving it. (Still have two years of my PharmD left, I think when schools done I might be adding a 2nd Legacy to my collection) I'm putting together supplies to replace the stock 1 CD stereo with a DVD/MP3/USB unit. Before I start buying and ripping things apart I figured it would be good to know how much space I have behind the stereo face. I'm planning on using the double din face plate from Scosche. I have manual climate controls. So, anyone who has taken the plunge and installed aftermarket stereos, in their 4th gen... what kind of room will I have back there? New stereo is 7.1 x 4.2 x 6.8 inches Thanks
dease42 Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Don't know the specific dimensions, but it should give you at least an inch, maybe 2 beyond a "typical" single-din depth. I know I managed to cram about a foot of wrapped extra RCA and wiring harness behind a single-din JVC, and it wasn't hard to do. There's not a "lot" of extra depth, but it's a fairly empty space around the stock radio. USB is the way to go.. it rocks Careful.. I started with the same car, and I now have a GT, the wife's got an OB, and I'm working to get her brother a 97 legacy
sks76239 Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 So a little extra wiggle room back there? Anybody have their p-201un pulled out sitting on a shelf just waiting to be measured? Glad to hear I'm not the only one worried about the number of Subarus which will some day fill my (imaginary) garage.
sks76239 Posted July 2, 2010 Author Posted July 2, 2010 Just if anyone needed to know, I opened up my dash and measured. The factory stereo is 7x7x4, almost the exact dimensions of the replacement I'll be using. So that's how much room we have back there. Thanks to LegacyGT.com forums for a link to a PDF showing stereo removal.
