SCOOBYSTU Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 Hi there, Just bought a 1995 GT as a project. As you look at the engine there is something missing from the right hand side of the alternator plus a plastic cover. There are hoses and an electrical lead tie-rapped together. Had a look at some engines on the web and this missing part looks like it should have a belt attached onto a flywheel - could it be a waterpump as the engine heats up quickly???? Any advice welcome as I would like to get it on the road soon. MAny thanks!
kaz98gt Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 pictures please? haha you lost me at "as you look at the engine" not to be a jerkoff or anything. the waterpump is behind the timing cover, so I doubt it's got anything to do with a belt. oh...wait...I'm confused dude. pictures.
SCOOBYSTU Posted June 29, 2010 Author Posted June 29, 2010 Will get picture tomorrow. The missing part would be located directly under the cover where it says Boxer 2 litre twin turbo. I attach a picture from the web. http://www.memecode.com/car/engine.jpg
amp27 Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 thats the A/C compressor. you have no ac. that 200 dollar apart used. just rip out all the ac. saves weight
SCOOBYSTU Posted June 30, 2010 Author Posted June 30, 2010 Nice one yes the ac compressor that's it. It's at the garage now for an MOT inspection. Sounds like the head gasket has gone which should sort out the overheating problem as there seems to be loads of air in the system and the radiator is cold at one end and bottom and hot at the top.
Bassnectar Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 ya dont let it overheat anymore though if it is the headgasket either have it fixed or choose to condemn the engine. as in drive with the bad gasket keeping coolant up for a few more months and then throw 2grand down for a jdm ej25 swap which seems a better deal to me than paying a grand to have your engine fixed depending on mileage and everything. but if your mechanically inclined fixing it yourself is the best option
