moncur_6 Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 I hate the fake wood trim around the center console and in the door of my '06 LGT. Does anyone know of an aftermarket place that sells carbon fiber/black trim? Let me know!
chrispyvu Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 i saw a post about someone wrapping their woodtrim pieces in carbon fiber. the link they posted is this onee http://neffywrap.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=5&products_id=1
str8dwn Posted June 30, 2010 Posted June 30, 2010 I wrapped mine in the carbon and think it looks nice. Def better than the wood. Be prepared to use a heat gun/hair dryer and LOTS of patience. the door pieces were a real pain.
moncur_6 Posted July 1, 2010 Author Posted July 1, 2010 Has anyone tried this on the whole door piece where the window and lock switches are? How difficult is that part to remove?
Mark34 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I painted my center trim black. Still need to do the doors.
Soda Popinski Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Buy the trim panels from an 08 LGT or later. Mine look mint and I get lots of compliments on mine. I think they are made different in the 08+
moncur_6 Posted July 26, 2010 Author Posted July 26, 2010 I started doing the carbon wrap on the trim, it's looking really clean. str8dwn, how did you get the door pieces out? I figured I'd ask before I break something

I think they are made different in the 08+ I've been meaning to do this in my Spec B. I don't care much for the silver plastic. I think the wood grain, fake or not classes the interior up a notch. Haven't looked into parts cost yet so not sure if it's worth it or not.

I have the wood stereo surround pieces from an '07 for sale.

Soda Popinski Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 The 08's have a piano like gloss finish. http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u148/cherrybloom203/legacy%20gt/0422081039c.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u148/cherrybloom203/legacy%20gt/0422081039.jpg http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u148/cherrybloom203/legacy%20gt/0422081040.jpg crappy pics but it's almost like a mohogany red/wood grain under a very glossy finish.
str8dwn Posted July 30, 2010 Posted July 30, 2010 I started doing the carbon wrap on the trim, it's looking really clean. str8dwn, how did you get the door pieces out? I figured I'd ask before I break something I never took them out. I carefully slid the heated vinyl behind the piece using a nylon trim panel popper. Started with the side closest to the handle and worked my way around re-heating the vinyl as I went. Take it slow and it will work. Nice part is, if you screw up, just cut a new vinyl piece.

Be prepared to use a heat gun/hair dryer and LOTS of patience. the door pieces were a real pain. How do the center pieces come off? I have an 06 2.5i limited btw and am planning on using flat black vinyl to wrap them in. Just got the car and am not trying to break anything yet LOL
Soda Popinski Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 you would have to look at how to remove the stereo. that invoves removing those pieces. you have to take a few dash panes off to get at the bolts that hold it down. don't try to pry them out... they will snap
gth5003 Posted August 17, 2010 Posted August 17, 2010 ok thanks I will search for how to take out the radio.....if anyone has a link handy awesome, if not I can search!
Mega Users LieutenantDan Posted August 17, 2010 Mega Users Posted August 17, 2010 It's extremely easy and you can leave the radio in unless you want to wrap that in vinyl too. Just start by unscrewing the center console. The screw heads can be found by lifting up the little piece of carpet that sits on the bottom of it. Then just go down the line removing everything else.

I just ran out there and took a look........I cant find the screw heads where you say they are located. When you say center console you are referring to the area between then drivers seat and passenger front seats not the radio area correct? The little piece of carpet confuses me LOL too?!?!?! Thanks in advance
Mark34 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 The two screws are under the shifter trim. Removal of that is dependant on if you have an automatic or manual. This is from a manual. You need to pull up to remove the shifter trim (highlighted orange) and the two screws will be under where the arrows are.
gth5003 Posted August 18, 2010 Posted August 18, 2010 Please disregard my last post because I have figured it out.......for an 06 2.5i limited t least you must remove the chrome bezel surround the automatic shifter/gear selection base by prying it up and off. Then you must pop out the surrounding center console plastic piece that includes the ash tray. Now you will see the 4 screws to take off the side moldings. Hope this helps anyone else who may be confused in the future.
