Are those the Tarmac's or Tarmac II's? I to am thinking of going to 18" rims. The funny thing is that in your pics the wheels don't even look all that big. I guess it is probably because of the raised suspension. With your suspension changes the wheels will probably look bigger.

Is there any change in ride or handling with the larger tires/wheel setup?

they are the tarmac II. the ride is somewhat stiffer, but not much...mainly has to do with the type of tires i put on...high performance summer tires, which have a stiff side wall.

They do look small in the pics, but HUGE in person. it has somewhat to do with lighting. Once the car is lowered, they will look bigger as well.

I love these rims, 4 days with them now, and could not be happier. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone

here are some other pics of the car that I posted in the suspension section, just in case you did not see them, you can see the wheels look a bit bigger here, but in person, they are monsters.

dropping, I have cusco Zero 2 coilovers, I am expecting a 2-3" drop, but need to wait to see how they go on the car. As far as I know, I am the first one to put Cusco's on the outback....so once they are on there, I will adjust them, but there will be significant drop.....but that is what I want, lower, stiffer, sportier, but not as low as the LGT, and to have the more aggressive styling of the OBXT with the bumpers and fender flares.

thanks Dan!! yeah, the STi coilovers look like a wonderful option for the LGT and OBXT. I just could not wait that long.....like waiting for Cobb to get their butt in gear for sways for our cars. I think Cobb needs to kick Hotchkis in the A$$ and get their sways out to everyone. That is why I went with Perrin instead, could not wait any longer. I cruise into my spair room at least 5 times a day just to look at all my parts. I am so itching to put this stuff on. My girlfriend had knee surgery today, so that took priority, but as she recovers and is getting around the house on her own, I will have more garage time. Next week is gonna be fun.

Any word on when the STi coilovers will be available? or are they too early in development? I wonder what the price point will be....seeing that it will be OEM subaru stuff, my guess is pretty high.

$2600 - the 3.0R Spec B models are ready now....still working on the turbo models. The price sucks, but I went through too much hassle with aftermarket stuff on previous cars.....I am getting the OEM stuff this time. One reason I bought a Subaru was because of the factory tuner parts.

:offtopic: Warning

What kind of surgery did your GF have? My fiance went through ACL replacement #2 this time last year. #1 back in 2001 left her flat on her back for months. #2 was with newer techniques. Within three months, we did a strenuous 8 mile hike with bouldering and 2000ft elevation change. I am still amazed. :D

she had chondromalasia of her left patella, resulting in the need for a chondrectomy, left lateral band release and patellar release. Basically...her leg muscles are too big and strong, she runs 7 miles a day, and also works out another 1.5hrs each day with other stuff. So, her muscles got too big, the lateral band bulked up and calcified on her knee cap, causing the knee cap to displace to the outside. It caused her so much pain, it would wake her up at night and bring her to tears. Now it is fixed, she had the surgery at 11am this morning, and is able to weight bear this afternoon...well, kinda. She will have full range of motion by the end of the weekend, and in about 3 months, back to 100% full use. She is a little doped up on pain meds now, sleeping it off, but by tomorrow, I fully expect her to be up and ready to go. She is way tougher than I am, that is for sure. Everyone at the surgery center, even the orthopaedist, a family friend, were impressed as to how healthy she is, her heart rate, muscle strength, etc. That is to her advantage, it will make her recovery that much easier.

no worries about off topic, I am the king of getting off topic in just about any forum.

as for the STi coilovers, I hear ya cluckin big chicken!!! I am used to doing almost all of my own automotive work, so having aftermarket stuff does not bother me, but I do understand where you are coming from. There are just not enough companies with cars that fit my needs that offer enough performance modifications to make me happy...not even Subaru. I do appreciate how much they are doing though, and their stuff is pretty much quality stuff. BTW...nothing on my MINI is OEM, haha, and we have decided to keep it, Betsy, my GF, laughs way too hard every time we take it out, and spank those corners. she likes to go fast!!! :)

OK Dan, here ya go, Betsy at her finest!!!

first, at work, climbing trees, she is a horticulturist, and lives for being outdoors.

Betsy with our dog, Claire...except that Claire lives with her "grandma" to keep her company now. Eventually we will bring her home from "boarding school"

and I know you already saw this one, Bets and I snow shoeing near Jones Pass in Colorado. There was an avalanche that day, 3 people caught in it, they all got out OK, so after that, we decided not to go up to high, and stuck to the ravine.

with her being this active, knee surgery was WAY important for her happiness. just the 3 months of recovery are gonna make her a little batty, so it is my job to entertain her and not let her get cabin feaver..

dan, you got some great shots there, Margie looks like she adapted well. Betsy is doing great, just made her soup dinner and we watched survivor. her mom picks her up tomorrow morning from the house, since I will be at the hospital all weekend, I won't be around to help her out.

aftermarket stuff is off the shelf and slightly modified to fit...although the Cusco stuff is pretty nice. the under bracing is made to fit the car, and the coilovers for our cars are pretty specific, the way they fit in...the problem is finding a spring damper set up that will last. I had KW on the MINI, and those were CRAP-OLA. The spring rates on those were much like the spring rates in a bic pen...soft, soft, soft. I now have the h-sport springs, and those are much better, and I am happy with the stock dampers for now.
