17x8 Wheel Options

UHHHH, I'm getting so indecisive about my wheel/tire options. I was looking at 18x7.5 with 225/40R-18 on the GT, but every time I do any AutoX or hit something mild on a track, I'm like I want MORE rubber! It's said 245/40R-17 will fit under a wagon, so I think that's what I'm going with. Probably the Kumho ECSTA MX as I know I'll burn them up and a few friends with EVOs tend to be fairly happy with them. Contact patch is about 1.2 or 1.3" wider per corner than the stockers and my P4's, so with better compound and more surface area, bound to get MUCH better braking and cornering grip.

So the question is what are the wheel options out there for the GT in 17x8 inch, 5x100 pattern, +48 to +53 offset? Something reasonable, non-forged and around a grand give/take $200 for the set is preferable.

I know the Rota Boost and Torques are viable options at $700 per set. Slipstream doesn't interest me.

Torquehttp://www.subydude.com/images/prod//products/Wheels/rota/Torque/200/200/17_Bronze_Torque_5X100.jpg

Other options include: Gram Lights 57Pro http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheelrack/wheel_images/Gram_Lights/57pro.IAAA.dw.gif $400 per (too expensive for my blood but very nice. The Wedsport http://www.tirerack.com/images/wheelrack/wheel_images/WedsSport/SA-90.QB.dw.gif is also a rather nice wheel though still $340 per.

Any other decent options?

I'm personally inclined to say stick with the Rotas.. I like the look of both the Torque and the Boost.. The design of the Legacy really lends itself to a wide variety of styles of wheels. I would get Boost personally since it looks kinda like SSRs..

Well fellas I chose to stick with a 225 tire so 7.5 still works and the dead sexy Tarmac II's in Bronze work for me. :) 17" in my color wasn't available so I went with the 18". I just HAD to have bronze. :p

nice for the price' date=' i like them, but a bit on the heavy side and not as strong as a forged wheel.[/quote']

They may be a tad heavy, but they are very strong. I've seen many a bent forged wheel in my day...Everything from TE37s, to Regamaster EVOs, to SSRs (super soft rims :p )...

If you're not gonna race competitively, go for strength over superlightweight and just keep in mind the costs...:)

They might be a bit heavier and cast, but they're plenty strong and if one has to be replaced because it's bent, much les costly. Like DM said, if you're not super competitive with race, not that big of a deal, spend the extra money elsewhere. I can't quite justify spending $1500-2000 on wheels when wheels and tires cost less than that for what I'd use it for and I wouldn't really see the performance difference.

I like the look of the 6-spoke Boost wheel, especially in silver on a blue wagon. Has someone already successfully fitted a set of 17x8 wheels (48mm offset) and 245/40-17 tires under the wagon fenders?

I'm actually lovin the Torques - they look like they coud've been a factory option wheel.

I'm just waiting for iON's springs to come over on a slow boat from Oz before I think about moving on wheels and tires. (Kinda like I'm waiting on a semi-reasonably priced catted DP before moving on exhaust.)
