transmission slip

I'll try to keep this short but here is my situation. I have an 05 legacy no mods or never been abused with an automatic transmission w/ sport shift 86,000 miles on it. the rear bearing was making a noise. Found out that Subaru has extended there service to cover just the rear bearings on 05 and i think 06 legacy's. Its 8 years or 100k i believe. So i was happy that i didnt have to do it myself or have to pay for anything. I dropped the car off and it ran fine just the bearing was making noise. got a call in the afternoon went down picked it up and noticed leaving the parking lot that the car wasnt running right. When i put the car into drive i hear a whiring noise from the back end. sounds like gears that arent engaging. Also when i step on the gas the car hesitates the seems to slam into gear and go. it only does it when i come to a stop and some times its worse than other. I took the car about 50 ft down the road and turned around and went back. So i go in and tell the service guy what is wrong and he sends out the mech. he knows nothing about the issue he say all i did was change the bearing. so to keep the story short i dropped the car off with a minor problem and now i think it has a major one. The dealer and SOA arent taking responsibility for it. i left the car there and I'm going to try tomorrow to see if they'll do anything for me. I'd appreciate any advise or info on what you think the prob is, how it happened, and what i can do. Thanks

Sorry for your troubles.

Hard to say without actually being in the car.

Have you checked the transmission fluid level and color?

How does the transmission shift gears when you punch it? Does it rev up before grabbing gears?

Your new symptoms sound like a transmission problem to me. A problem with the rear differential would be accompanied by a horrible grinding/ clicking noise. Has the transmission had fluid changes?

The transmission fluid was changed but not recently. After i went with a test drive with the mech he checked the trans fluid and the level was good and color was fine didnt smell burnt either. the car seems to hesitate when you step on the gas then it seems to grab and the car surges forward. I just dont know what they did to the car. When a trans goes is it usualy a progressive problem or just happens? So far i havent been able to get anywhere with them. basicaly they can take your car with no problems screw it up and there not responsible. I'll let you know if i have any updates. thanks

If it is gears, bands or clutches going, you usually see it acting up under load (flooring it). if it is from the get-go like that, have them double-check their work, they may have screwed up something in the bearing install which is affecting the rear differential?
