Mr. Sinister
To drain all the fluid, I need to remove both drain plugs, the T70 drain and the drain on the oil pan side, correct?
Mr. Sinister
I ended up opening that plug too and another half quart or so came out. It took about 4.1/4.2 quarts to hit the full mark, so I'm guessing I drained it properly.

rao
You must have used synthetic gear oil Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
Mr. Sinister
It was Extra-S. It's not synthetic, but it's not readily available either. I'm not sure which criteria holds more weight so I'll have to wait and see if it was good enough.
rao
Extra-S has a special exemption - it is recommended by the engineers that designed the crappy components that make up the Legacy. I was using it in my 5MT as well as my 6MT.
Darkness of Death
i'm pretty sure if i asked for that here, they wouldn't even know what it is. kind of like how the service and parts guys didn't even know what the SI drive does.

I was using it in my 5MT as well as my 6MT. Lucky you. I called 3/4 dealers in my area and only one knew what the hell I was talking about. I ended up buying 5 quarts from FBP. bakabakablah
I was reading up in the other thread and I just wanted to make sure before I ordered anything but the Extra-S can be used in the transmission AND the rear diff? And that means I'll need to order ~6 quarts of the stuff (4.3 for the transmission and around a quart for the rear diff), correct?
rs6er
You want to use the Subaru LSD stuff (# k0305y0900) in the rear diff of your Spec B. I just did this.
integroid
I thought you only had to use the LSD Oil in the rear diffs of the 04/05 MY? Anything newer could use the Extra-S
istealfrombums
Actually the Subaru LSD stuff is not needed because the rear LSD on the spec B is a sealed unit, the extra-s will be fine. Only the 04-06 STI rear LSD requires the special Subaru LSD fluid. More info is available in the Extra-S cat's meow thread.
