allidoisski
I have a 2005 Legacy 2.5i AT with 108,000 miles. Just had my Subaru dealer do a transmission flush 2 weeks ago. We have gotten a bit of snow here in Michigan since then and I notice that now, especially after driving in deep snow, my heat smells like transmission fluid. The smell comes and goes, seems to really occur if i stop the car. ALSO, when im in 4th gear and in OD, when i slightly push the gas peddal to accelerate the car has a low pitched humming noise that you can also feel untill it down shifts to 3rd gear. Please help! I drive over 4 hours every other day to go skiing and dont want to miss out on time on the slopes!!!
fishbone
Since the dealer did all the work, I would take it back to them and address these issues. Have you checked your ATF fluid level via the dipstick? My guess is that there is probably some that was spilled when they filled it and it is being heated/burned by the engine. apexi
I don't think its related to your AT fluid change. I would read up on this thread, I get the same smell from my car after driving in slick conditions. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104094

allidoisski
My fluid level seems to be a little low, and it also smells bad. I go to MyAuto Import in Muskegon.
fishbone
Define smells bad. Tranny fluid is not particularly rosy smelling out of the bottle. As long as it doesn't smell like burnt toast and doesn't have a dark color, it should be fine.
allidoisski
Unfortunatly I can't define smells to well (4 nose and sinus surgurys), but the fluid is deffinatly very dark red.
fishbone
If it looks like cough syrup, then it's fine. There really isn't much we can do, it could very well be unrelated and be what apexi posted. If you are genuinely concerned you should address the issue with the dealer that did the maintenance on the vehicle.
allidoisski
Thank you for the help. I'm going to bring it into the dealer and see what they have to say.
apexi
Transmission fluid smells very bad due to its additive package, and its supposed to be a dark red color. So if the dealer tells you this, theyre not bs'ing you.
