chimmy22
Hey everyone, I am looking to change the ATF in my 05 Legacy GT. I am wondering if anyone knows a good alternate fluid to use. I was thinking maybe the ams oil, or some special synthetic fluid. Or would it be best to just stick with the factory recommended? Please help!! jerseyglock
Are you just changing ATF fluid? If so, stick with factory. If you are going to flush the TC too then I would go with AMS synthetic. But, there are other brands ATFs out there.

fishbone
Stick to factory OEM. It is plenty good especially at stock or moderate power levels. No need to switch especially since it can be spendy. Drain/fill with OEM fluid and call it a day.

FocuS
make sure you replace the 5eat filter under the battery there is a filter... The manual says it's non-serviced part but I don't see why? If your changing the fluid you may as well change the filter too... I'm doing my 60K at the same time so I'll have the battery and airbox out so it should be easy... fishbone
It is a non-serviceable part because the transmission doesn't generate enough debris for the filter to need replacement. However, it's so easy to replace and relatively cheap, why not? I'd do it especially since there is going to be some stuff from break-in I figure.
