rymac320
Will 2008 SpecB stock 18's fit on a 2008 GT? I can't seem to find my answer...bolt pattern-wise? If so, has anyone done this - 'upgraded' from the stock 17s on the GT to the stock 18s on the specB? I just love the look of those specB tires. kenzo
Spec.B wheels are EXTRA circular and add 15hp.

mightyS
If you want greater acceleration, stay with the 17 inch wheels and get lighter wheels. Plus 17 inch tires are cheaper.

mightyS
^I know I agree the Spec B wheels look nice. I found from my 1st autocross that lighter wheels make a difference. I didn't feel it until I bought wider and lighter wheels. I switch to the light wheels before a race and back to the stock wheels afterwards (in the winter). It feels like I gain a lot of power just by switching to the lighter wheels. It is amazing what a reduction in rotational mass can make.
Darkness of Death
lighter wheels are more expensive, aren't they?

DrCloud
The overall diameter of Spec.B tires (at least on my 08) is 1" more than the LGT setup. Because the suspension is different on the two cars, it may be that fitting that extra inch into an LGT wheelwell could be problematic. Has anyone actually done this? (Yes, 18" wheels with the appropriate tires to make the overall diameter unchanged will fit for sure. But will the extra inch of tire?) jxjjang
does that mean that people who did a bilstein HD setup should go for the specB tire size diameter or stay within the stock GT size diameter?
jxjjang
anyone?
wpmarky
jxjjang, to answer your question, it doesn't matter what struts you use, The only thing that will make spec.b wheels/tires not fit is if you use rediculously low springs or coilovers. No matter what strut/coilover combo you go with, your speedo will be off because it's callibrated for the stock LGT wheels/tires (225/45/17). For example, when your speedo would normally read 60mph on the stock wheels/tires, it will read 58.5mph with the spec.b wheels/tires (according to that tire calculator). http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp
jxjjang
hmm, okay. thanks for clearing that up!
peteyjr
That tire size calculator is a good tool. I went up in tire size when i changed to Spec B rims (early version) . Running 225/45/18's . No problem rubbing even with lowered suspension. I did have slight rubbing issues when I had swift springs on. I use lighter smaller wheels for Autocross 17's. Spec B rims are not light. jxjjang
i was just wondering if the specB tire size will look better on a lowered GT than the GT tire size. i'm lowered on bilsteinsHD's and swifts and i just bought 18x8 wheels.. normally i would've gotten 225/40/18's but i'm thinking about my options here.. peteyjr
They will fill the wheel arch more better (double positive) and look mo betta too. On my lowered WRX it looked dorky (oversized) but not on the LGT.
jxjjang
hmm, these will be the last set of summer wheels/tires i go with, so i want to do it right. on that note, is anyone running 225/40/18 or 235/40/18 or any other specB tire size on a bilsteinHD and swift/pink setup? peteyjr
Bilstein will be 1/2 taller from the top hat (compared to stock or Koni's) so you should not have problems with either tire choice . I really only had rubbage when my stock struts wore down after a year and a half on swifts.
jxjjang
well i used 225/40's last summer, and i had a good amount of clearance. i was just wondering whats the largest tire i could use safely haha. some people say that they rub on 235/40's...
