Clutch is going - think I can make it through the winter?

I'm at 95k with my stage 2 baby. She's still on her original clutch (bless her heart). Around 90k, I came back from a trip where I'd left her parked in the cold, Logan airport (Boston) parking garage for a few days. On the trip home, I noticed some slippage in 4th gear. I've been doing the research since then, and I've settled on the ACT HD kit and the TSK3. The only question now is when.

I've noticed that the colder it gets, the worse the slippage. I'm slipping pretty bad in 1st whenever it gets below 40 degrees out. I've gotta keep it under 15mph in 1st if I don't want the clutch to give. 2nd and 3rd aren't too bad, and I've been babying it on the highway for some time now. I was hoping I could hold out until Feb or March, but I've read some horror stories about TOB's and other tranny damage that make me nervous. Do you guys think I can get to 100k, or is it not a good idea to risk it?

Also, while I'm here, does anyone have a feel for the difference between the LWFW and WRX OEM? I'm seriously considering going with the act streetlight for the increased responsiveness, but I wonder how badly it'll affect driving in traffic. Is it worth it?

I drove a friend's car with the ACT clutch and LWFW (the moderately light one, not the super light) and it's no problem at all. I was kind of apprehensive about getting a lightweight flywheel but not anymore.

I have can't even guess how long your current clutch will (or won't) last, though.

Based upon your symptoms: no, you won't make it through the winter. Slipping in 1st under light to moderate throttle is some bad slippage. Usually it starts in 4th and 5th and you can keep it from slipping (which is what causes the clutches downfall: slippage).

After I noticed my 3rd gear slipping, I had 5 weeks until it was practically undriveable.

And I only put on about 1500kms a month. So take it for what it's worth.

Order up your new parts now. It sucks to have a fat car bill in December, but it's necessary.
