PileOfSchwag
so like must of you I am sick of the sub-par stereo..so I want to install a 4-channel amp and 4 infintity kapa shallow mounts..so i have a few questions actually ive installed stereos where you can remove HU and replace with a aftermarket..but i would to keep the stock hu so.The amp im buying is a alpine with Speaker line inputs. SO my first question is To set this up i need to disconnect the factory speakers and splice (sodder) speaker wire to all 8 (+ -) speaker wires then run this to my trunk to the amp? then i have to run speaker wire from the amp to the new kappa speakers correct? Thanks for any help on this i am a NOOB when it comes to this speaker line input/line output converter
m sprank
Basically, yes. You could splice into the wires behind the HU. You actually want to disconnect them so that the signal goes only to the amp (just in case). Then you could run new wires from the amp to the speakers (this is a pain for your set up). I recommend separating the wires from behind the HU. Taking the wires from the HU out and going to your amp. Taking the speaker outs from your amp and going back behind the HU. Now take the amp outputs and connect to the speaker wires (going to the speakers). All connections are now behind the HU. You only ran wire from your HU to the trunk (two sets) with no wiring to the doors. If you ever wanted to go back to stock you just reattach the wires you cut (HU to speakers). bigdadi
If the amp is small enough you can put it under seat instead, thus shorter the wires. Remember wire the amp's 'power' lines along the side of car and 'audio' wires along the middle of car to avoid noise (like from alternater) you don't expect. Isn't it wonderful if car manufacturers can design a space or even pre-wired for amp placement behind the glove box or close to the HU?
SVXdc
You can also make the connections behind the HU using a "forward"/reverse pair of 14-pin radio harnesses. Then you won't be cutting any of the factory wires, and you can easily return it to stock. Just make sure both harnesses have all 14 wires (many out there lack the Orange/White dimmer wire). m sprank
This is true and SVXdc make a nice set for a very reasonable price. Actually about $7 less than the set I built for my 05 so I am getting my next set from him and saving the labor (plus I lost the tool in a move).
