MaStaMooN
Trying to figure out which headunit to buy, ahem, my wife to buy me for xmas. What I want is: built in blue-tooth, sirius capability (with addons of course), high voltage pre-outs (4v or greater), good ipod functionality, ability to change the colors of the buttons and built in navi is the least "important" feature. The Pioneer x710bt seems to have everything I want.. so I guess thats the benchmark. I found it on amazon for like 585 or so, so I would also like it to be in that price range. Im ok with a Kenwood, Alpine, Eclipse or Panasonic. TIA Jon - vBGarage Profile
tangcla
I have the Eclipse AVN726EA (the equivalent of your Eclipse AVN726E). I love it. Buttons can be changed between blue and red illumination. http://www.tangcla.com/temp/bl5/tangcla/IMG_1431.jpg
str8dwn
Nice tangcla! I just bought the same and will install over the holidays. Mastamoon, I picked it up from Pacific Stereo for $750 shipped and with iPod cable. They are auth dealer, so you get the 3yr warr. If you don't need the DVD player, the brand new Alpine iXA-407 looks good was was a close second for me.
tangcla
Just FYI, the "iPod Cable" is just a standard USB cable I'm using a $2.21 retractable USB iPod cable from Dealextreme.com just fine.
str8dwn
What about video from your iPod?
tangcla
What about video from your iPod? I've never tried, tbh... I don't use my AVN for video though I can't see it being any different cable.

Just to avoid anyone getting hosed by your first sentence if they ignore your second sentence: The "iPod Cable" is not just a standard USB cable, it's a standard iPod cable that you get when you buy an iPod. Meaning, it'll have a fullsize USB connector on one end, and the flat/skinny iPod connector on the other end. But to your point: Yeah, it doesn't have to be any special brand or Certified OEM COMPATIBLE or any of that silly garbage.
RyanGT
I've never tried, tbh... I don't use my AVN for video though I can't see it being any different cable. I have the Eclipse AVN726e. Using the USB/ipod cable provided, I wasn't able to play video from my ipod. The sound came though but not the video. I had to get the optional Eclipse ipod cable with came with the component video connectors, and then I was able to play the video from my ipod. . . I have enough drama for now..... EyeFlyIsTheEye
I got a new Pioneer F900BT off of eBay. It can be updated to use the X910BT's firmware and comes with every feature you listed, and adds GPS.
tangcla
I've tried the Pioneer, Kenwood and Eclipse units. The Pioneer GPS interface is very pretty but it's slow and very laggy to use, and also quite confusing. The Kenwood has a lower resolution screen and the GPS software is a never-before-heard-of application. Looks like it was made out of Taiwan, in-house by Kenwood. The Eclipse has its fair share of minor problems too, but as an all-round unit it was better than the others. It runs an Eclipse edition of the Navigon iGo 8 software (sadly I can't figure out how to upload colour schemes and voices to it)s oit's easy to use out of te box, without reading manuals.
