greetings, i just bought a downpipe and i am wondering if it is vital that i get a tune as soon as i install it, or if i am ok to install it and tune a few weeks later? the only other mod i have right now is a cat back. also, i want to convert to E-85 here soon. What kind of mods are required and what is the minimum size injector to go with? thanks!

AFAIK, you should have no problem driving without a tune. Sure, you won't get the full advantage of the components, but someone correct me if I'm wrong, it should not harm anything and the vehicle will run fine. I noticed that you drive an '05. If you haven't already, you will want to switch out your uppipe to a catless one before flashing your ECU to stage 2.

With e85, you will want to change out your fuel pump to a higher volume unit and you should be able to run 740cc injectors with your stock turbo. I'm not sure if you can run 650cc with E85. Maybe someone else will chime in on that one.

You'll be OK if you stay out of boost in the meantime.

However if you hold WOT long enough you'll be running the motor at loads that it wasn't tuned for, and that is not safe. But you'll almost certainly hit the fuel cut that goes along with the ECU's boost limit, so you probably won't be able to do that for long. ;) That's playing with fire though, so just stay out of boost.

biggest problem may be that you would hit fuel cut. The stock fuel maps are very rich and the timing isn't particularly aggressive, I wouldn't worry about leaning out or anything like that. You'd be better suited with an opensource or cobb tune though.

I've dissected the Cobb stage 1 and stage 2 maps before in other threads. The biggest difference is the way the boost control system is tuned. Besides that the AVCS cam advance is smoothed out, the timing is flatter (advances timing earlier and then ramps up more slowly), and the fueling is actually slightly leaner.

a lot more questions than just a downpipe......

i know but it all popped into my head as i was posting so i figured "hey why not" ha ha

thanks for the help though i appreciate it, I will just wait until i can get tuned to put it on because it seems there is no point whatsoever to run it alone. I definitely dont want to risk something happening to the car either...... much much too precious:p
