keithk831
Since I bought my car back in July, I have noticed a rattle coming from the dash near where the a-pillar touches the dash. I noticed that if I pushed down on the dash where the defrost vent is (in the corner by the pillar) that the rattle would stop. Today I removed the a-pillar and had a look. The a-pillar connects to the dashboard with two plastic "prongs". I wrapped the prong closest to the front with a thin fabric cloth (I used one of those microfiber ones that you use for cleaning sunglasses), then put it back in. Voila! I hope this helps someone. I may do the same with the other side, although it doesn't rattle nearly as bad.
devobuzz
Are there any air bags in the A pillar that you have to worry about?

keithk831
http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92254&highlight=remove+pillars There's a link on how to remove them. Pretty easy once you read this :-)
timmahh
The main cause of the dash rattle is the dash itself. It has two plastic pegs that sit in metal holes in the cars frame, to do the permanent correct fix you're supposed to take the entire dash out, put something soft around the pegs [like the red fabric from a lint roller], and put your dashboard back in. RochNY91TSI
Just figured I'd throw this out there too: Though it's not a dash rattle, I was battling rattle near the steering wheel. Turns out that there's a service bulletin on the cruise lever; it was rattling pretty badly until I had it replaced. Been fine ever since though

Different rattle. In the one you're referring to, the rattle is coming from the side of the dash. Mine is coming from the top.
timmahh
Ahh.. well I have one horrible rattle that stops when I push down on the driver air vent... or anywhere else on the dash. I believe mine is the edge of the dash rattling against the windshield. I tried pushing down and tighening the screws on the driver side, but one of the supports is cracked where the screw goes and it came loose again. I'm thinking about getting 2 pieces of metal and screwing those together, kind of sandwiching the factory section in place to hopefully fix it once and for all. Sounds like a good time for some JB Weld...
Code
My 09 has a rattlin glovebox door. I hate it. I think a bit of foam tape will do the job. "Striving to better, oft we mar what's well." - Bill Shakespeare - car modder
keithk831
My wife's Cavalier did that when we bought it. I bought some sticky foam round things to put a gap in between the two parts and it pretty much stopped.
