tangcla
So I've just got myself a set of front and rear Brembos from an 03 STi. Just wanted to find out a few things. * The front rotors and calipers is meant to bolt on, with the exception of the dust/splash guard, which needs to be trimmed. True/false? * The stock brake lines can be reused, with the addition of a washer. True/false? * The rear needs either a new DBA rotor with a 170mm rotor, or different handbrake shoes to suit. What are the pros and cons of this, and does anyone have a link to the handbrake shoes? I was thinking, if I stick with the STi rotors, I get more options for upgrades later on down the track. * Rear caliper anchors - I know a few people make them, what options do I have and at what price, and also what difference is there? Squiden
I've been in the throws of swapping to front/rear brembo's, so I can answer a few of these questions: 1 - You can reuse the stock brake lines with the brembo's - I went this route after being unable to break my stock brake lines free after swapping out the front caliper. 2 - For the rears, I was able to get everything to bolt up by trimming about an inch off the dust shield top and bottom where the bracket sits, then pushing the rest out of the way - I think this is easier than completely removing the dust shield, which seems to be the typical method used around here. 3 - The setup I got used the STI rotors with the enlarged parking brake pads - went together really well without issue, and I agree that this gives you more rotor options. Sorry, I don't have a link to those pads (since I picked this up as a set from another forum member). 4 - You will have to grind a little bit of the control arm to get the rear bracket bolt to mate with the caliper. This is the hardest part in my opinion (well... hardest for me, since I didn't have a grinder...). I tried to find bolts with a flatter head that would make this work, and was unable to come up with anything. Make sure you're ready to do some grinding before starting! Hope that clears up some of the details.
Waxiboy
So I've just got myself a set of front and rear Brembos from an 03 STi. Just wanted to find out a few things. * The front rotors and calipers is meant to bolt on, with the exception of the dust/splash guard, which needs to be trimmed. True/false? FALSE. It is bolt on but you do not have to trim shields. Make sure you use STi caliper bolts. * The stock brake lines can be reused, with the addition of a washer. True/false? TRUE. Did not use washer in mine except the copper ones. * The rear needs either a new DBA rotor with a 170mm rotor, or different handbrake shoes to suit. What are the pros and cons of this, and does anyone have a link to the handbrake shoes? Adapter rotor=easier install. Adapter shoes=more rotor options and easier to replace rotors. I went with adapter shoes. I was thinking, if I stick with the STi rotors, I get more options for upgrades later on down the track. * Rear caliper anchors - I know a few people make them, what options do I have and at what price, and also what difference is there? I used the one from fastwrx.com
