ClimberDHexMods
My goal is for this thread to contain summary case studies on the small handful of 05-09 5EAT LGT/OBXT cars, in order to see what does work and what does not work. This way people planning on going >350wtq will have some centralized data to help them draw their own conclusions. Why 350wtq+? Because <350 has been shown to work just fine. There is not, however, compelling data on the 350+ guys. Hopefully the following members and many others will list their setups and detail any transmission issues or failures, as well as successes. I'll try to keep the first few posts current. My setup will eventually take me past 350 as well, in which case I will post my results. When I went stage 2 i did the VB mod and trans cooler to begin with at 65k miles.. at 75k miles switched to an FP green and supporting mods.. then at 85k miles i did the red and more supporting mods.. currently sitting at 99k Had no issues until a recent trans flush.. there was a mishap and trans fluid was put into my front diff.. so i drove home with very low fluid in the trans.. brought it back and it was corrected and worked fine.. about a week later i accelerated hard to get into traffic.. everything was fine. i noticed a problem trying to slow down.. the trans would not downshift out of 4th into 3rd.. it was stuck only in 4th/5th. drove it home having to start out in 4th gear.. right before i pulled into my driveway the trans clunked and shifted down into 1st like it should. drove the car around and it seemed fine.. but shortly after that 4th/5th starting to go rapidly. now they are gone .. if it goes into 4th/5th the sport mode will start flashing and you can no longer shift manually.. but it will hold the gears from 1-3 and sometimes hit 4th downhill setup in the works.. fully built IPT 5EAT Block LA Iron Sleeves Bored 100mm 100mm Wisco pistons Pauter Rods Knife balanced crank Pinned mains BC 280 cams BC titanium springs/retainers Port and Polish GReddy Header UR Up + Tial 44mm wastegate GT4088r (debating on which a/r i want to change this to since its in the closet) plus all other supporting mods also tossing the idea of doing 2000/2200cc injectors and E85 for some crazy numbers -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here is what I have from memory(It may no be correct): Goyim year??? jim1969
you have to remember that a dyno can give you any number. For example, on my stage 2 setup, I hit 254whp and 388wtq on a Dyno Dynamics dyno with my 5EAT. My torque curve was crazy looking due to how the dyno loads the 5EAT. Result a couple of years later: new tranny
ClimberDHexMods
you have to remember that a dyno can give you any number. For example, on my stage 2 setup, I hit 254whp and 388wtq on a Dyno Dynamics dyno with my 5EAT. My torque curve was crazy looking due to how the dyno loads the 5EAT. Result a couple of years later: new tranny thank you for your report, and sorry for your loss (trans). as for the numbers being inflated, that's why I list power mods too. people can throw out any numbers they want, but I only report what's realistic, as you can see above, the 3 cases stated are realistic. There is a debate about the high AT early tq numbers being realistic on specific dynos, but that doesn't apply here too much because even the early-boosting HTA68 clears most of the stall rpm window. You are right, a stage 2 setup can beat the piss out of a 5eat, especially without upgraded the shifting, but that's not what this thread is about (since it's already been covered, and I've written about it at length). For the record. I'm not reporting anything smaller than a AVO380/20g/FP68HTA, and even all of these requiring some meth/E85/ewg element(s) to make 350. The ONLY reason I put wtq instead of whp is so I don't have to listen to people telling me that whp doesn't matter, wtq does. You proved that idea to be a catch-22. Everyone please submit more data! Pierce would you mind telling me how many miles have you put on the car with your current setup? I put about 15 miles on it before it blew... Was doing logs for Infamous1 who is tuning my car when the boost reference line to my fuel pressure regulator popped off... Rick
Thanks for the info Pierce. It sux that it happened, but in the end you'll have less worry with a built engine.
fishbone
when the boost reference line to my fuel pressure regulator popped off Wow, how did that happen? Did you dink with it or was it a freak accident? Should I look into using 20 clamps at each end to NOT have this pop off?
pierce88
I mean it had been unhooked like 2 weeks before that when we removed the manifold and did the tgv install... But it had been reinstalled securely and correctly... So yes it was a freak accident in a sense... -Pierce
ClimberDHexMods
^^^^^ It pops off more easily than most of my lines after being on-off-on-off. I am of the school that every hose must be clamped. I'm $5 deep in clamps. I don't remember which came unclamped anymore. I'll let you know in a few days how it drives. Holy dang that is a lot of stall... Since your turbo is making power way the heck before 4000k, you are going to be able to WOT straight into power all the time, anywhere... Also, I want to know how it cruises on the highway at 50mph... how far/much it slips and whether you lose and mpg doing so... please. Great setup, glad to see you rockin' it, but the numbers just aren't there with a VF39. You would be a great example for the early torque crowd, but not in this analysis. At first I was concerned with having such a high stall, but Ty at IPT talked me into it. I was told that it should feel the same when driving normal and just allow me to launch at a higher rpm. I hope that's how it works.
