vwroom
Hello All, I am looking at purchasing a '08 Legacy GT with relatively low miles. This wouldn't be the first Subaru i have owned but would be the first used one I have purchased. I have been browsing the forum looking for potential problems with these cars but it looks like they are fairly solid. Is there anything I should look for in particular when looking at these cars used? Thanks for the help! Bryan
zennoodle
Being sensible and vigilant about the car is a big plus. Check the carfax report and see if there is anything that sticks out like a salvage title, major wrecks, etc. Also, test drive...since you have owned other subarus before then you should have a good idea how they feel on the road and in your hands. If you are looking for a manual tranny, make sure the clutch doesn't slip, make clicking/popping sounds, etc etc. I think you'll do well. Good luck Bryan. king_j
the lgt is a solid car. it can have its share of issues, but its a small price to pay. read up: http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=124170
DCounts
Just be very patient while searching. It took me 8 months to find my '06 with 24k miles on it. There were a couple of others I almost bought but I'm glad I waited.

DrCloud
Make sure that the turbo oil-line recall (it involves installation of an additional bracket for stability and strength) was implemented, if the car was one of the builds affected. king_j
any more details on which years were affected?
red98lude
any more details on which years were affected? It was the 2008 models and they did a stop sale.
DCounts
I was really looking for a swp or rbp with the 5 speed manual transmission. I almost settled for an automatic just because they were so hard to find. I also was looking for the lowest milage I could find. Most of them were 50k or above. The car I bought had everything I was looking for plus it only had 24k miles.
DrCloud
any more details on which years were affected? If this question is about the turbo oil line, it included some 07s and some 08s (both of our cars, as luck would have it). My LGT.B actually failed before the recall came out--but the fix worked fine and still is. There's a service bulletin about it floating around on this site somewhere. mrmako
Hold out for a spec B. You'll be glad you did.
vwroom
Hold out for a spec B. You'll be glad you did. I would normally be interested in one but I believe that finding one that hasn't been modified could prove to be very difficult. This is going to be my daily driver reliable car so I want to find a car that hasn't potentially been abused. Bryan

LosAngelesLGT
I can tell you what NOT to do! When I went to test drive the LGT for the first time I was used to driving manual work trucks... I let out the clutch at 3000rpm and with a huge grin shouted "HOLY SHIT! Thats AWESOME!" The salesmen's smile was bigger than mine was, I am sure. He knew at that moment he had me. Slobaru
It was the 2008 models and they did a stop sale. This is not correct. I have seen the oil line break on any of the 2.5l turbo cars in the past. Personally, I am in the market for an LGT and refuse to buy one that hasn't had this fix implemented. All I need is for my oil pickup tube to snap in half @ 100k miles and have subaru give me the cold shoulder.
