MarcusDubya77
Don't know how well this applies over here, but I might be purchasing a 135 in about a year. If we have any owners, or friends of owners, then please help me out. While in Japan (now Qatar) I have had a 93 WRX as a daily driver, and am starting to look towards different options when I get back. I recently picked up a copy of Bimmer Magazine and read a little about the 1 series and was addicted. So now I am leaning towards the purchase of one when I return stateside. I potentially will use military sales (I am in the Army), and would like to make sure that i can get a great deal so I had a few questions for owners, if any here, of them. here they are: 1. What options from the dealer are a must? 2. What options should I avoid? 3. How is the aftermarket support (all aspects) for the 1 series? Links would be great. 4. What are any of the reliability issues some of you all have faced? Finally... 5. What is your overall experience with your 135's been like? 6. What is a good dealer price? Any help would be great. Thanks. :woowoo:check out the Diamond Gray Metallic Monster!!!

Thanks. 1- the ones you want 2- the ones you dont want, and the brake and suspension upgrades. they are already installed on the 135i with a sport package but they will gladly charge you anyway. 3- huge. rissracing. dinan. vishnu. google 135i performance and hang on, no shortage of parts. 4- no one here owns one, try a bmw board. Two of my buddies with 335 have had great experiences, one modded for many miles one stock. 5- limited experience, but loved it. 6- edmunds tmv is as good as you will do, most likely. have fun, imo its the best performance bang for the buck out there right now. S0CalGT
If you can squeeze it in the budget, get a 335i instead. I'm not saying anything negative about the 135i's performance potential, or bang for the buck, but every angle that I see tha car in is very unproportional... like a 335i in a circus mirror making it "look" extremely cramped. The 335i, on the other hand, is just tits! Just my two cents. Whatever you choose have fun!

MarcusDubya77
I really don't remember asking about personal opinions on the looks or the specs of it. I am aware of its 3K weight, and questionable looks. Hell I don't think Subaru is working towards any solution to cut back on the new Portly Fugly Leggy, and only info on the new Subyota (Subaru version) Coupe is renderings from mags, so I am looking at what is available. From what I have read 135 owners are very pleased with thier cars (as are leggy owners), and I was simply looking for some owner feedback. I am now very aware that there are no owners here. Thanks for the assistance. :woowoo:check out the Diamond Gray Metallic Monster!!!

Thanks for the assistance. All I can really tell you is that the twin turbo I6 is a sweet motor, and has some tuning potential. The ones I drove in 3 series cars were great. The only issue with them is some high pressure fuel pumps have been problematic. The theory is that states with a lot of ethanol in the fuel are harder on HPFP's. bgLGT
If you're planning on tracking it make sure you look into cooling upgrades. 1 and 335i's have cooling problems with hard, high duty cycle driving. They aren't M cars for a reason, but for the price difference you can fix the issues. I think Active Autowerks has an upgrade radiator.
KurtP
t3h legusee is dah best cawhr in duh wurld yo~! With the logic around here people need to be driving old school civic sedans with motor swaps.
SLegacy99
Fatassness of the car aside, I'd wait for the single turbo 3.0L (N55). More torque available at lower RPMs and valvetronic that is more operation than the N54. My experience, though limited, with bi turbo engines is that they spend more time in the shop once they begin to age.
KurtP
lots of other factors to consider in the torque increase beyond just changing the turbo. Hope you don't like to tune cars....because thus far there still hasn't been anyway for aftermarket ecu support for the valvetronic motors that started coming in the 2006 330i.... I dont see how a twin turbo set up is inherently less reliable than a single turbo set up provided the maintenance is kept up with?
SLegacy99
I dont see how a twin turbo set up is inherently less reliable than a single turbo set up provided the maintenance is kept up with? Turbos wear out. Some quicker than others, depending on the source of the turbos and the auto manufacturer (Audi comes to mind). It has yet to be seen how reliable the BMW twin turbo setup is since it is still relatively new. However, you can't deny that it costs less to replace one turbo as opposed to two. My question is will there be lag? Rereading my previous post, I suppose you are right, I was unclear. Having 4 turbos may be just as reliable as having one, for the turbos that is. But perhaps not on the engine. BMW also states that the N55 will see an improvement in fuel economy and mate with their new 8 speed automatic. KurtP
for the 5 series, yeah that should be good. Who cares if there is 'lag' or not? as long as the turbo is getting started somewhere in the 2k rpms range IMO people are overly sensitive about what 'lag' really is. Just because it makes more tq later than sooner doesnt mean it is 'laggy'. I read one article that actually said they didnt like a turbo power plant because "below 2000 rpms the turbo is lagging" If a buyer is so concerned with having peak performance below 2k, they need to be looking at supercharged v8's and v10's. not turbo 6's..... $.
SLegacy99
I think that the "average" BMW owner wouldn't care for the jerky feeling associated with turbo lag. But then this kind of driver would probably do just fine in the N/A model.
