Both are white and manual which was a must for me and they both are right around the same price. if anyone can give me a non-bias option..haha on which would be the better choice that would be great. im aware that this is a legacy fourm but there are benfits and disadvantages to both cars. so any thoughts on the subject are greatly appricated!

Actually this has been discussed all before. You should search. But the short version is this: Legacy is a more mature car; more elegant; equally performant...and in fact given the current 2010 Legacy, your 2009 option is the upgrade to the Legacy that Subaru will be offering for the next 4-5 years.

An unbiased opinion on legacygt.com may be hard to come by. :)

Prior to purchasing my '05 LGT, I had 3 cars on the short list. STI, EVO and LGT. I chose the comfort of the LGT, and it likes mods as well as the others.

I drove an 08 wrx and an 08 lgt before deciding.. The wrx seemed slightly quicker I guess. If the prices are similar I'd definitely go for the lgt.

The 2009 WRX makes my 2008 feel like a civic. It is as fast as the STI according to the mags. If he wants speed get the WRX. If ge wants comfort and the potential to be fast get the LGT.

I came from vr6 mk2's, jdm ITR's, and such. The cars were crazy fun, but when you get used to the power, all your left with is a a fast car that isn't that great to drive. Both cars run fast. But in a year or so, both will feel slow. You get used to the speed/power. The legacy can be just as fast as a wrx. If you value having more room, and comfort, get the legacy. The power will wear off, but the comfort and class will always remain.

Interesting because we are debating with a similar situation my 05 GT wagon has 110,000 mi stage 2 and starting to eat up some money for up keep (it has been maintained very well but still 100,000+ mi) A friend has an 09 STi that he barely drives due to travel etc.. he leases the car and is willing to give it to us for the buy out which appears to be a good deal. I asked a Subaru sales person that I trust (don't laugh) and she said that short leases on STi were not very good for the lessee but would be very good for the buyout price. So we are tossing around the idea of getting a late model Spec B or this particular STi . The problem with The Spec B or any LGT is moding it and warranty issues or a stock STi that is already pretty quick and handles well. ??????? what to do ????

After just having a few warranty issues with my 06 I think I'm leaning toward the STi

Boys buy the WRX. Men buy the LegacyGT.

I went from WRX to LGT to STi so what does that make me? Lol. I think "whipped" men buy LGT's :) Can't justify the STi to their wife so they buy a family sedan. Both are good but I disagree with that statement.

09 REX! I love this car, put $2500 of mods into it and now have 310 hp to the wheels. The previous post about getting used to the power is so true, it felt so fast after the mods now I want more, meh. Sometimes I wish I would have srpung for the STI, they can handle more power because of the stonger tranny. But overall bang for the buck I am very happy with my rally-wheeled WRX!

I guess you wanted to get back in to a rawer, more boy racer type of performance automobile, which is totally fine.

But my age, with 2 small kids, it's nice to have a fast wagon that is invisible to both cops and ricers everywhere.

There were some big differences in insurance rates for me. The WRX was quite a bit higher and the STI was much higher than the LGT. It was 3 years ago, so I don't remember the exact amounts, but I figured the insurance savings would pay for most of the mods I wanted. The LGT kinda flys under the insurance radar. :)

Have you seen the 08 STi's? They are hatchbacks (some people refer to them as wagons) they ride slightly stiffer than a LGT, they aren't boy racer (in fact its hard to tell them from a regular imprezza from a distance) . If you would visit the iwsti forums you would see many of the 08+ STi owners have small kids and needed the hatchback space...I have a kid on the way and the 4 doors + hatchback + AWD makes it a perfect family car while also being fun.

So it fits the bill... Plus they don't make the LGT wagon anymore (or any legacy wagon) and the hatchback STi wasn't out when you bought yours (unless you got it used) so comparing a 2008/2009 WRX/STi to a car that can't be purchased anymore doesn't make much sense to me.

Oh, and my car is definitely invisible to cops and ricers lol. The only ones that notice me are car enthusiasts (usually driving a performance car) and other subies. Have yet to have a honda rev up on me yet. And cops... man they look the other way, must think I am in a mazda :)

My 06 LGT was about 699 a year and my 08 STi was 899 a year. So yeah, higher insurance rates but I don't think they are as high as previous year STi's (but what do I know lol!)

I went from WRX to STi to LGT to Accord V6 sedan 6MT to LGT Spec.B, and my wife is (amazingly) still my wife.

Yeah, I am suprised my wife puts up with me too :) This new car she said " has to stay with us for 5 years" so I said ok... now I tell her the next mod I am buying and she says WHY ARE YOU BUYING MODS! I say... cause you are making me keep it 5 years :)

Legacy and it's not even close.

The WRX is a ricey-looking kids car.

I get constant compliments from my friends on the interior of my legacy once they get in it.

You'll probably want to add sway-bars though, because compared to the WRX the body roll is awful.

Also, as someone mentioned, insurance is considerably cheaper.
