Mikef87
Alrighty guys- got a question for ya, just got online with lgt.com... man this stuff is sweet. so i'm finally out in the real world with the ability to support myself and get a real car LOL. i've had my eye on the 06 lgt or a spec b. i've read every single thing on both, understand the ins and outs, pros & cons, etc. I also have alot of wrench time, but all on old school N/A muscle. so to start off on a long arduous line of questions i'm sure i will have, this one's about intakes. (i'm still looking for the car to put it in lol) but what is the absolute best COLD air intake for the 06 lgt or a spec. thanks for the insights in advance and thanks for this awesome site. pce
Scooby Fan
COLD air intakes don't make any difference on LGTs...the forced induction heats the air anyway and the intercooler cools it......the stock airbox passes more air than the stock turbo can draw...put in a decent panel filter and enjoy your car:)

E-Tank
An intake on an otherwise stock LGT is actually going to hinder performance. Unless you're stage 3 (ie. turbo upgrade, fuel delivery, FMIC, etc) a short ram or cold air intake is not for you, not to mention you would have to tune for it... If you wanna spend $200 get an opensourse stage 1 tune or save up some more for an accessport.
hifonic
I've heard that the stock air intake system is suficient for stg2 set up's.Once your past that then start looking for a CAI.

Little to be found from a CAI across the board it seems. Also Spec.B, same motor.
captainhook
At stage 0-2 a CAI or ram-air intake will be more of a noise maker than anything else. With that said, I have the Cobb SF intake and I'm a fan. It makes the BPV sound nice and audible without needing an aftermarket BOV, it also looks good and was easy to tune for. bushman33
I'm agree with captainhook...Look, get what you want. I finally got around to getting my K&N Typhoon in yesterday. A friend of mine owns a tuning shop locally here(tunes mainly Subaru's and some EVO's) and I didn't even need to tune for this intake. ECU reflash, good to go. Now, I will agree that it makes the BPV much louder, but I also hear that if you remove the stock airbox silencer it will do the same. Everyone keeps saying that you need to tune for the intake. I'm not really understanding why this is? I mean I understand the reason for tuning, but does the ecu start throwing CEL or something? My buddy says there's no need. d_a_b
if your car is virtually stock an intake wont hurt your car nor will it improve anything

ClimberDHexMods
I feel like something was missed here. The only two good cai options are the stock airbox and the AEM cai. The small diameter of the AEM tube limits how far you can actually push the power level due to the MAF. Some Short Ram units have the heat shield option such as K&N and Cobb. Both are good as well. Stay away from SPT due to swirling around the MAF. If you want an actual bump in your performance ceiling, an intake won't help you for a long long time. There ARE however things you can do to start that yield a huge improvement. bushman33
Climber, I get what you are saying about the intakes. I know tha my k&n probably isn't considered a true cold air because it does not go entirely into the space previously occupied by the stock airbox silencer but it sure does improve throttle response. When I got my car the previous owner had a drop-in filter and it didn't seem to do all that well. Again, maybe it's because it was k&n. I'm new to the Subaru/turbo world myself so call me ignorant, but i do get 3-4mpg more now....when I'm not enjoying the newly found spoiling noise from that tiny turbo. I never said anything to the contrary. It's a good intake. MAF ID is supposedly very close to stock diameter, though stockbitself varies a little [CENTER][B][I] Front Limited Slip Racing Differentials for the 5EAT now available for $1895 shipped, please inquire for details!
