Heated mirror/wiper auto-off DISABLE??

Do any of you electronics wizards know how to disable the auto-off on the heated mirror/wiper switch? It's so annoying to have to turn it back on every 5 or 10 minutes or whatever it's set at. If you're stuck in a horrible snow storm, you wouldn't want to have to keep looking down and hitting that stupid switch over and over...

Underdog is right, at least in my 06 tribeca it says the dealer can set it to work as-is, or on so many mins, off so many mins, then back on repeating until you turn it off - I think there are 2 or 3 options to choose from...

Dealer def. has to do it though!

Oh sweet, I'll just order the tool then. SIKE. Thanks for the suggestions tho, I'll take it into the dealer and see if they can do anything. I hope so. I didn't even think of a speedo adjustment but that would be awesome if they can do that too since I'm running slightly taller tires now...

So I called a couple dealerships in my area and they both claimed that they had no way to adjust the speedo or the mirror heater auto-off...:icon_roll I didn't ask specifically if they had a SSSM. Oh well. Now I will just have to wait for one of the electronics wizards on here to design a workaround! (hint hint)

There is no workaround. You need an SSM to do it. I've had it done to my car for both the rear defroster and wiper de-icer. Just go to the dealer and tell them, "I would like you to change my rear defroster setting from 15min to continuous using the Subaru Select Monitor."

If they don't know what an SSM (Subaru Select Monitor) is, tell them it's the expensive laptop they got from the mothership. If they don't have the laptop... find a dealer that actually cares about the cars they work on.

Speedo should also be adjustable through the SSM... but even less dealerships are going to know about that.

print the attached pic and show them that.

Aw man! I subscribed to STIS and spent an entire weekend downloading every file on there. Or so I thought... I must have missed the SSM section somehow. Well thanks a million for the screen shot. I'll probably have to break down and spend another 35 bucks just for that one section:nono:

we have auto door locks?

We do?????

Maybe my Compustar has over-ridden that feature for the last 4 years.

It's handy in the wife's minivan. Keeps the car jackers from sliding open the side doors at the stop lights.

Soooo, I called the dealership today and of course they had a SSM, but the service tech made a good point that I had not considered: the "de-icers" on our Subarus are only designed to melt the ice initially so that the wipers get un-stuck from the windshield (like after being parked in a storm). For true heated wipers, you'd need some of these or these... Which begs the next question, anyone have any experience with heated wiper blades??

The continously heated are probably better, but I can't see how momentarily touching the warm spot would not work at all. Ever had a wiper ice up on you in the middle of a nasty storm? Not fun... I always run wash fluid with antifreeze during the winter anyway.
