one bad bg
i know this is a legacy forum but im not a memeber of any impreza forums yet and i have seen a few impreza owners in here that have legacys as their dd. so having said that, im looking for a local impreza owner, i live in broadview hts ohio, the farthest i will drive is as hour. heres what i need and its not much: i just need an impreza thats late 90s and i need to see if the hood will fit on my 98 legacy, im not looking to buy it (yet) but i heard that a 99 impreza hood will fit and i just want to test it first before i go and acually drop money on one. if you have a late 90s impreza, not exactly a 99, let me know if i can try you hood on for 5 mins, haha. basically what im trying to accomplish is getting a bigger scoop, and instead of cutting, welding, and bondo, i figured if an impreza hood fits, ill just buy one. thanx
adidasoutback
why exactly would you need a bigger scoop on a NA outback? To increase the air into the imaginary top mount? I just did a google search and found the answer to your question btw
one bad bg
jeez, calm down. i did a google search too and found out that it MIGHT fit. so i wanted a local to see if it did acually fit hands on. and no i dont want more air goin to my imaginary tmic, i want it for a looks stand point. i dont have a turbo, and i never will on this car, but i like the look of a larger scoop over that wannabe scoop they put on the legacys, (sorry legacy gt owners, but i have the same hood) i hate the scoop, i think it looks horrible, i hate the scoopless hood even more, and i like the style of the impreza scoop, so whats wrong with that. one bad bg
and btw, the 90s years of legacy and impreza rs vary a lot, some years are interchangable with other years on only bumpers, other years are interchangable with different years on headlights and fog lights, its all confusing, so, before you decide to criticize someone, do ALL of your research, not a 5 min google search and look at the first thing that comes up. one bad bg
so back to the subject, lol, is there a cleveland impreza owner that would mind me using their hood for a few mins?
adidasoutback
To answer your question when people refer to an outback hood fitting after reading from a simple google search BTW the impreza and outback sport impreza hoods interchange but the legacy outback hood does not fit. You can also tell that by simply checking out pictures of both cars and noticing that the legacy hood curves in at the top with the fender to the A pillar, and the Impreza is straight. On top of that when some one is talking about an impreza hood fitting an outback they most likely are referring to an outback sport which is an impreza with outback treatment. Kinda like a legacy hood fits an outback from 94-07 on legacies. Also to help you out on another aspect, you can edit a post and add more to it you dont have to keep replying to yourself. one bad bg
i know about the editing, i just found it easier to post a new reply. and i looked at the pics, the curve you speak of looks the same, if not, slightly different to the point where noone would notice. and the impreza sport hood is far from straight. the headlights are a little smaller in width, which makes sence that legacy hood is too wide, but the turn singals are bigger, which makes up for that size difference, maybe. which is why i want a local to try it on. i wasnt trying to start a huge debate, i just wanted to know if a local could help me out, and if it doesnt work, then the subect gets droped and i go to the high preformance junkyard by me and buy and sti hood for its scoop cause they have more sti hoods and wheels then they know what to do with, along with viper and corvette parts, which pose no use to me but im just saying, lol. I dont think you understand, the hood is not the same at all in any way shape of form, the hood will not fit on a legacy, the curvature of the hood does not match and will gap on the denders and by the A pillar, and also where the hood curves in is where the mount hole for the impreza is. They are not the same hood, its not a minor difference, it does NOT fit. Also an impreza hood IS straight at the top where I am referring to I literally am posting on top of a 99 impreza outback and I am staring at the hood. It will not fit period. Sorry to burst you bubble but your asking for the answer, I gave it to you, but you still dont seem to grasp it, NO an impreza hood does not fit, at all ever, never until the end of time. Its to small for the gap, the dip where the grill is, is to short, it doesnt curve the same by the wiper cowl, it mounts differently, the headlamps would interfere, it doesnt fit, trying to find some one with one would be pointless, is what im getting at. Ogden
So I don't own a Legacy, but as a owner of an 1997 Outback Sport for almost 13 years, I have to back up adidasoutback and tell you that an Impreza hood will not fit on your Legacy Outback. They are different vehicle platforms. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you want more scoop you'll have to go the DIY route with an STI hood or buy an Impreza. I thought I might miss the scoop, going from my '97 OBS to my '09 Outback Sport, but I don't.
