Russ Wheeler
Gents, I'm in the market for one of these machines however it's a bit of an uphill battle for me. I live in a very remote part of the great white north, and as such, finding specific used cars can be very difficult (closest city is 4+ hours away, next is 8+) However, amidst this obstacle, I've located a LGT optioned out as I would like, the only issue is that the car is lowered. Obviously this is an indication of a modified car, which has more than likely been driven harder than a regular car. The car has also had a new clutch installed by Subaru (regular maintenance, sign of abuse, defect???) It's a 2 owner car, the 2nd owner bought it from a subie dealership and traded it back after a year because he got a company car. I tracked him down and spoke with him, loved the car had 0 problems, wishes he still had it, says that it was lowered by the first guy, and he doesn't know what type of set-up but the Subaru dealership told him it's high quality. Stated he's not a car guy but the first guy was. Asking price is consistent with others of similar mileage (of the few examples i've found in this country) So, should I steer clear? Particular points to look at? Also, say hypotheticallyI wanted to go back to stock, how much $$ would I be looking at to change back to stock height? Anyone wanna trade suspensions Thanks to any and all!
scoobydoobie
how was is lowered? What struts/springs/coilovers? If the parts are quality and the install was done right (and the alignment is good), I wouldn't sweat it too much, you might enjoy the change in ride/handling. edit: have the seller jack the car up and take pics of the suspension. I'm sure someone here could help identify it.
Russ Wheeler
I'll be in contact with him tomorrow, hopefully then I'll have some more info on the suspension... The issue I have is that we get sooo much snow here that I need all the clearance I can get.
ClimberDHexMods
If it's too low for real snow, then stock suspension components are dirt cheap used on this forum, and that will get you up higher. If you're going to be in REAL snow, why not get the outback xt (same car, just higher up, few more small differences) Don't judge my Texas location, I use to ski 200+ days a year for years. ShockerGT
If it is indeed a quality setup, I wouldn't worry. Usually if a car guy buys good parts, he will take care of the car. BTW, did you and Cole Trickle finally get over your differences and get along?
peteyjr
I bought my 05 from a guy that put swift springs on it. Otherwise it was mostly unmodded. Almost two years later and no problems. He also took good care of it. I would be more wary of major work like Turbo swap etc.
