rao741
I have a 08 3.0R Limited. The rims near the center cap are bubbling and getting black spots on all 4 rims. I have contatced Subaru about this and going to the dealership Friday, anyone else have this issue? Never used anyhting harmful on them. Car has 22k on it. Let me know, not sure if they are deffective but should not be falling apart at all........
Golf4283
I had the same on my rims as well. I just went ahead and replaced them with Rota's. The 3.0R rims are ugly IMO anyways.
LegacyMUN2k6
Two of my rims on the drivers side have the same problem, around the center cap area. My car has about 32k on it. I hope they can replace the rims.
Strizzy
Mine has just over 6k on them and have the same problems. I'll be using them as a winter set though, so it isn't big deal for me. My bad luck build
rao741
I just got back from the dealership and they took pictures and are sending off to Subaru of America. I will have a answer by Tuesday. I am tyring to buy a house so no new rims are in the budget right now. I do not want to get stuck with something that is falling apart. The Service guy was very nice and understood and agreed that it should not be happening. It was the first he had seen or heard. I will update when I get the call. rao741
Update: There has been nothing back from Subaru of America yet it has been 1 week, I will hopefully have some info Monday, if not I will be back at the dealership asking questions. Bolksey85
They should cover it. I've seen much more stupid things covered under warranty so something a wheel coating or paint that should last damn near a lifetime should be covered.
max_bobby
You got any pics. I think i am having the same issue. thanks.
LegacyMUN2k6
I went to the dealer thursday for a oil change and also having the same problems with my rims at 34k, they are going to replace all 4 rims with brand new ones. Subaru said they will only replace them once and to be careful with how you clean your rims.
LegacyMUN2k6
The dealership where I went to is Subaru of Nashua.
rao741
I went to Singer Subaru in Plaistow, NH where I bought my car, I always cleaned with clearcoat protected cleaners. I am not sure what is taking so long. I will try and get some pics up today for you guys. But I feel it is taking a little longer than it should. MUN2k6 did they say what the casue of this was? LegacyMUN2k6
They did'nt say, I should have asked them to get me the 2.5i rims I perfer those over the GT rim's.
max_bobby
What do they mean about becareful how we clean the rims. We are not washing them in battery acid.
max_bobby
Mine isn't that bad, but it appears to be starting. Is this what everyone is talking about. It's on all of my wheels.
Mr. Sinister
Same thing is happening on my wheels too at 18K. I'm going to wait until it's closer to the 36K before I take it in. I've got a feeling that if I get a replacement set, the same will happen again. Only water was used to clean the wheels.
rao741
Seems like this is a common problem, This is clearly a defect, I think that Subaru should take care of this becasue 18K, 22K, rims should not be falling apart... Kinda sad.....
max_bobby
Have you heard back from the dealership. I guess I should go to my dealership. This will be fun.

rao741
How is this possible, do you think Subaru knows this is a issue, I do not even want to put the same wheels back on my car to see this happen again.... For the first time with 3 subaru's I am extremly Dissapointed that they have not solved this issue, it clearly goes back to 05' and beside replacing wheels, nothing has changed, I rather have them give me a credit for what they are worth instead of replacing, at least I could get something that will not fall apart.........You figure we spens a good chunk of money on these cars. NEPA
Subaru replaced my defective 2005 wheels with new replacement wheels dated 2007. Other members have had the same corrosion problems with 2007's, so essentially Subaru replaced my defective wheels with other defective wheels. I have to admit that it really bothers me that Subaru has not made a running change to fix the problem.
rao741
That is what i do not want to deal with. I bought a $28K car and now 22K miles into it I am worrying about stock rims. Not good, the dealership is not help to my problem, I keep getting blown off. Getting more mad by the second...................
pillboy
I don't know how they are going to solve it without redesigning the center cap. Since the cap is pressure-fit into the hole in the wheel, it is always going to violate the wheel's clear coat when it is installed. Usually you see this same thing around crimped on wheel weights. It is still ugly.
rao741
Got the call today after a put a call into SOA, They contacted the dealership and the next day they tell me my rims are ordered and will contact me when they come in. But took over a week and until I called SOA nothing ,so we will see what happens, and how long it take for them to get in.
max_bobby
Hey rao741, Do you have pics of your rims. How bad do they look, because mine don't look so bad. I'm pretty sure they will give me the run around. Glad to hear you are getting new ones. Are they saying, it's a good will gesture?
