Heading to the track soon.......

Recommended Posts

Heading to a 1/4 mile track with a few friends soon, just curious how i "should" do against them. Obviously it all depends on launch/driving ability/etc but just curious how it should go so if i get smoked by one buddy i know it's not because i bogged or something and that he should have beat me that badly

Friend #1 - '09 mustang GT, manual trans, stock

Friend #2 - '06 GTO, manual trans, upgraded intake

Friend #3 - '06 RX8, manual trans, I/H/E/reflash

I'll most likely be stage 1 by track time. 06' LGT 5-spd

friend 1 can beat you if he gets a good launch, otherwise you should edge out if he cant drive

friend 2 will beat you too.

friend 3 will lose to you.

you will need stage 2 to beat frient 1 consistantly, and more to beat friend 2.

how much beyond stage 2 would be needed to take down the GTO, assuming he just keeps the intake as his only mod?

Its really hard to tell, the 04-06 GTOs were hard cars to launch on street tires. IRS, manual with alot of trq makes for either burning out of wheel hop. But assuming he can drive very well he can hit 12.8s at 108-110mph, so you would need to be faster than that.

Like i said 90% of GTO drivers cant get them to break into 12s but it has proven itself to be a 12 second car with the right conditions and the right driver, if its your friends first time to the track in that car i would expect 13.4-13.8 times.

04-05 GTO's 5.7L 350hp but the 06+ have 400+hp 6.0L engines :(

Stg2's can beat stock 06 GTO's depending on traction and drivers. He will most likely spin at the track with street tires if he has little experience, so you should get him out of the hole if you launch right and keep the lead if you drive right.

I've ran 13.2 at 1200' with a stock turbo which should be enough to keep up if not beat the avg stock GTO, but not from a roll :(. Can't wait for my VF52.

only the 04s were the 350hp ls1, 05-06 was the ls2 with 400hp. and if you go to page 4 instead of page 5 on the drag times link you posted you will see stock 05+ GTOs in the 12s, like

I was Stage 3 running a FMIC/Deadbolt SZ55 and pulled about 2-3 car lengths on a GTO on the interstate. (He was running a catless setup, 6spd manual).

I don't think the VF40 has enough power to outdo a 6.0 liter V8. (It would take one hell of a protuned Stage 2 setup to even come close)

As for the Mustang and RX-8, just as everyone else has mentioned, get a good launch and you can beat both.

we'll all be on street tires and i'll be the only one with track experience. Sounds like it'll be some fun runs. thanks guys.

Like i said the GTO is a hard car to launch. If you really wanna beat him race him on his first one, most likely he will bog or just burn out. My first run in my 2000 T/A m6 was in the mid 14s, my best in stock form was 13.3.
