rowley12
I recently picked up a used 2.5i 2004 outback from a relative who headed OS, for quite a good price. It always had the ER-lc on the dash, i was assured it ran fine, and it has up until now. But the other day i began to notice the car idling a little 'lumpy'. i figured perhaps new plugs or something, but it has become progressively worse. Last night i drove 3-400km, and over that distance idle deteriorated to the point where RPM jumped between 400 and 1200rpm, back and forth, physically shaking the car. The car was also jerky in any gear whilst maintaing constant speed, worse in lower gears. Seemed normally smooth under accelaration. On the way home, after about 1/2 hour of city driving, Check Engine light comes on, and the car basically wont accelarate. i pull over, shut it off, and turn it on again. it runs, but still lumpy/jerky. Cruise light was flashing whilst CEL is on also. CEL came on again later in the evening, same situation. both low speeds, lower rpm.. I also noticed the throttle body servo [dont know its technical name] when ignition is on but the car isnt running, is contstanly adjusting (audible) and sounds clunky, rather than the whine you would expect of a servo. What may be the cause? faulty TB servo? or somthing further down the line? Ill get the CEL code scanned asap, fingers crossed it isnt tooo rediculously expensive to rectify... also, im aware ER-LC is 'low speed CAN bus error', but could someone explain what this means, and what components are involved/may be casusing such a fault.Anyone experienced anything like this?
