Colourfyre
Hi, My car died at a roundabout yesterday... It turns over fine but doesn't even sound like its trying to start lol. When i turn the car on now, I cant hear the clicking from the fuel pumps... So far I have checked the fuel pump fuse in the passanger compartment fuse box, its fine. I have looked for the relay but failed to find it... Could anyone give me a picture or something??? What else would you reccomend checking? The Car, earlier that day stopped in a very deep puddle and took in water. It has been running fine since then (a good 100k) untill it died at the roundabout. (The fuel was very low but we did fill it up and this didnt fix it. Any help would be fantastic. Cheers
Platinum_Racing
You said the car died in a puddle earlier that day, but ran fine for 100K? Is this 100K miles? Something tells me you didn't drive 100K miles in a day. Check spark. Ignition could very well be the culprit.
Colourfyre
sorry i mean 100km. I dont know about the spark plugs but the fuel pumps are definetly not presurising like they should. Is there a fuel cutout thing in the car?
Platinum_Racing
Get in the car with the door open. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to "Run" (NOT START). If you hear the soft buzz of an electric motor coming from the gas tank area, the pump and all it's relay's are operational. The line could have a huge hole in it, causing fuel pressure to be insufficient to run the engine. Another possibility is a gummed up fuel filter. You said you were very low on fuel. If you sucked in some gunk from the bottom of the tank it might have become clogged somewhere, causing the engine to not receive any fuel.
Colourfyre
Ok, ive checked the fuel pump relay and its working. The only thing is that the pumps don't sound like they used to... Ive now got a flat battery, and when i turn the car to on but not going obviously, ive got the oil light, brake light, abs light, battery light and the power light is flashing sometimes. What does all this mean?
Platinum_Racing
If the power light is flashing there is a computer problem. On the earlier models this meant a transmission problem, I'm not sure what it means on the newer models but it's definatly a problem. You should try to get someone to read the check engine codes and see what's going on. If the pump doesn't sound like it used to it might be clogged. Sorry I couldn't be more of a help. The other lights should come on whenever the key is in "Run" with the engine off. The oil light because there is low oil pressure since the engine isn't running, the battery light since the battery voltage is low since the engine isn't running.
