Does Subaru Extended Gold Warranty transfer from owner to owner?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I just bought a 2005 Subaru Legacy 2.5i with 32,000 miles on it. It was coming off a lease (so the dealer said). I had the front O2 sensor go bad the other day and now i'm having serious electrical issues with my car. I'm hopping its just the alternator. I was getting a lot of errors on dash and a lot of things didn't work before the alternator went. I think i got electrical spike, my headlights even burned out.

Anyways, back to the point. I just talked to service department at Subaru of Troy and they told me the car is not covered but the previous owner has a extended gold warranty on the car that "might" cover it (he couldn't tell me if it did because he "didn't know the warranty exactly" and the service manager is out on "family emergency" (yesterday when I called; he was "in a meeting") . This seems weird to me, because the car was a lease, why would you purchase an extended warranty for a lease your about to turn in at 32,000miles? When I bought this car, i was told it had an extended warrenty and i was good until 60,000 miles. Now when I go to take it in for work, they are saying its NOT under warranty...

This is my first car I have ever purchased and I made the mistake of not getting any paper work on the warranty. I thought I wouldn't have any problems with the dealership.

I will keep everyone updated on what the dealership does. I'm expecting a phone call on Monday. Meanwhile; I have been out of a car for a week that I just purchased a month and half ago and have had nothing but problems with.

The original owner who purchased the extended warranty must fill out a form relinquishing their rights of the warranty to you. Until that is done, you can not have any claims done under the SAS plan. Did they offer to sell you an extended warranty when you purchased it? Also most dealers have a warranty of their own(in house) which covers the car. I know we have a 6 month/6,000 mile one.

PM me the last 8 digits of the vin and I will check what warranty the car had/has.

PM replied. Shows 2 different owners and the SAS Gold contract expires this year after 3 years, possibly the duration of the lease.

Hmm, that is weird... The lease it up though... and why would a person take an extended warranty out on a lease, when you plan on returning it at 32,000 miles? Shouldn't the basic 32,000/3yr warranty be fine? Does it say when the lease is exactly up?

It doesn't tell me anything on the lease. I just know that the extended warranty expires this year. The Basic 3/36k should be fine, but who knows why they bought the extended warranty.
