Looking for a traffic lawyer...

SO I got a very foolish ticket the other night. I was speeding and was supposedly laser'ed at 86 in a 55 by Denver PD. This was getting off of 6th eastbound and getting on I-25 north. The officer originally said it was 86 in a 35. He then told me that 35 is the advised speed. I was given a 6pt. for speeding and 4pt. for careless ticket. I'm not complaining or anything I know I was speeding not sure if what he said I was doing was right or not wasn't watching my speedo. I have a hard time believing that I was doing 86 on a clover leaf with 3 guys in my car in fourth gear, but whatever. It is however the first time I got the extra charge of careless on top of the speeding. Not quite sure why this was tacked on. Anyhow I currently am a goverenment officer and I'm in the process of trying to get in to a law enforcement job can't take anymore dings on the record espically a big one like this. I really just want to score the best deal I can in court so I am looking for a good traffic lawyer. Price isn't a big deal if I can get good results. But if I can pay a cheaper price and get the same deal as a guy who charges more I'd like to go the cheaper route. Anyways I know I'm dumb so I'd rather not get flamed, just wanted some good refferences if any of you guys have one. Thanks.

You'll probably be getting tons of solicitations in your mail in the next 3-4 days. Look at them all, and select someone that's been around a good long time.

The last traffic lawyer I used had 22 years of practicing law. I never even met or talked to the dude. One quick call to his office, spoke to his aid/secretary, and lined him up for my court date, and paid all over the phone. He got my 75 in a 55 down to "improper equipment" which is a no points charge and is only a ~$100 fine.

This is NC though, so things may be different out there in CO for you.

Ok, here's my suggestion (note: this is a horrible idea, and should not actually be practiced). I agree that 86 around that ramp seems inconceivable, so I suggest you go back and take it faster and faster until you don't believe you can make it anymore (or until you crash, whichever comes first). Take that information to court with you.

But yeah, that sounds crazy. Do you know where the officer tagged you? I don't know how he could have tagged you while you were in the ramp. I wouldn't think they have sight lines clear enough to hit you in there.

I'm totally going to do it!!!

He was sitting at the end of the ramp facing I-25. As soon as he came in to view (I was at where 6th ave westbound on to I-25 merges with the eastbound 6th lane) I got on the brakes. The way thats ramp is set up I saw him the same time he saw me, but I don't think it feesable that the point in which I came in to view I could be doing that speed. Hopefully I can find me a good lawyer to help me out.

Um, just my 2 cents but this seems like a terrible idea. You already got hit there once, why would you risk it again doing it intentionally? Sure drive it once at the speed limit and judge how fast you could take it from that. 86 on that ramp seems unlikely.

If you go into court and say "I couldn't have done that" the judge is going to nail your ass to the wall big time. The best course you have is to go in hat-in-hand and hope for the best. Better to show that you're a good citizen, etc than "I tried to go that fast and couldn't". If you really want to get as small a penalty as possible get a good lawyer and go the "right" route.

Again just my two cents.

...oh and get a Passport 9500xi - mine has litterally saved me 13 times. The 14th I got hit by instant on Lidar in Boulder, 49 in a 40. Was zero points and $100

I was kidding about trying it again scarcasim is kinda hard to pick up in type. I miss my Passport 8500. Although I did get a ticket with that too. Oh well I just need to pay more attention to my speed I guess and slow down.

I'm actually glad you missed the sarcasm, because this made my day! ;)

Sorry to hear this, Chandler! That ticket does sound a little far-fetched, considering the circumstances, so best of luck fighting it. Unfortunately I'm not much help in these situations.

Yes, the information that you tried to take a cloverleaf (a public road) as fast as possible to get out of a careless ticket will really help you.

Op, get a lawyer. I don't have CO recommendations. It will most likely be expensive. Do you know any lawyers? Ask them for referals.

If not:

Do not get a "phone book" lawyer.

I don't know any lawyer's personally to ask for referrals. I have been really busy the last week but I am going to call around to a few lawyers in the next couple of days form the CO bar list and see what they can do for me. I know it will probably be expensive but I'd ratther pay a lawyer once rather then my insurance co for the next few years and also so I don't take a huge hit on my driving record.

Sadly I got bad news 86 is pretty easy on that ramp. I work right there and have gone 90+ on it many a time in the gt wagon. But you would have known you were moving pretty quick into it.

I'm running all stock suspension... Do you have any susp. mods or are you stock too? 90+ really? Thats kinda impressive. I was pushing it but it felt real stable more in the 70 to 75 mph range. I don't know about the wagon but the sadan has a lot of body roll. Maybe it was the added weight of my passengers.
