zenfamily
My friend has an Audi A4 2.0T that is spitting out the following code: P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow He also says it's sending out a code for a bad MAF sensor. Another symptom is that the engine is running really rough. Hopefully someone here has seen or heard of it. Any help would be appreciated.
c-lo
have you hopped onto the audi forums to find out what the code is? 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
monkonmonk
EGR valve? mileage? But I would also suggest Audi specific forums as well.
zenfamily
We're trying the Audi forums, but haven't had too much luck.
Kess732
I used to be a VW guy...I would recommend looking at VWVortex.com and doing a quick search. They have tons of info. Also, have you buddy check to make sure his gas cap is tight enough...I hear that can cause P0441. http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerosearch
ehsnils
Sounds like a hose that has come off on the intake manifold.
robinlsb
I presume you have checked the coil packs. Known problem with ALL 2005 A4s. If you haven't checked them, pull all four (easy) and if one comes out in pieces, viola! "Belief does not make truth. Evidence makes truth. And belief does not make evidence." I used to own a 2001 1.8T which is similar and VW/Audi's are notorious for chewing through crappy Bosch electrical parts like MAFs and EGR valves. I am guessing that those two parts are crapped out as these were common failures. That is why I no longer own said VW. The amount of problems that car had in 60k miles is astounding. F-WDC Spec B
the evap code is for a loose gas cap or a hole in the fuel system. The tank needs to be pressurized. As everyone else said there might be a loose vacum tube or you can try swaping the MAF with another one like friends or so and reset the ecu drive around if the code reappears then its something def something else.. ShrinerMonkey
He found a disconnected tube after hearing a sucking noise. He had to take it in to the shop b/c he couldn't figure out where to connect it to. That was going to be my next suggestion. VAG likes to use cheap fabric wrapped rubber vac hoses that rot out after only a few years. I replaced all of mine with high temp silicone after the first one failed. I guess the milder European climate is easier on rubber than the brutal midwest, but it is really just another case of VAG using cheap inferior parts in their cars to save a few bucks. psi365
He probably has a bad evap emissions purge solenoid. This should be the part number, but without the VIN I can't be sure part number 06E 906 517A. Our retail price is $20.54 and you may also need 2 squeeze clamps to go with it. What this valve does is during cruise to slowly releases excess fuel vapor into the intake system from the carbon canistor. Sometimes carbon bits work free and clog the solenoid from either opening or closing. It s located on the drivers side, either on the side of or under the intake. Audi gas engines do not have an egr system. Due to Audi using variable cam timing they hold the exhaust valves open just slightly into the intake stroke which serves the same function as egr. If he doesn''t have a fault for a MAF it may not be the problem. 2.0Ts did not have the same coil packs as a 1.8T and were a lot less problematic. Did he recently wash the engine bay? Any other faults? Does the check engine light flash?
ShrinerMonkey
2.0Ts did not have the same coil packs as a 1.8T and were a lot less problematic. That's what they said about the coilpacks they replaced under recall in my 1.8T and I STILL had one fail.
psi365
That's what they said about the coilpacks they replaced under recall in my 1.8T and I STILL had one fail. Well in comparsion of having two years of two different engines in three different models having coil pack issues, with the completely different designed coils of a 2.0T very few have failed. I say very few as in less then say 20-30 cars since 05.5 when the 2.0T debuted. And at about $30 a coil pack it isn't exactly breaking the bank. It could be worse and you could have a E46 BMW with a subframe cracking.
