iNVAR
So I'm running Osram H7 65W bulbs from Daniel Stern... don't think it's been a problem yet. The other day, I was trying to aim my foglights. The headlights were overpowering the fogs, so I threw a microfiber cloth over the headlamps. BIG MISTAKE. The right headlamp housing is now distorted a bit... there's a bulge, where the inside of the plastic clearly melted. Now I need to find a new one. The left one didn't do it, but I can see where if I had left it covered with the cloth any longer, it would've heated up enough. It wasn't even that warm in my garage that night... maybe 70 or so since the car warmed it up. Anyone else melt their housings? This makes me wonder if I should switch back to normal 55W bulbs. These things are really, really bright though... Also, anyone know the part number I need? Am I going to have to replace the entire damn thing? It'd be a shame since the projector assembly is still fine. It's just the front-most outer plastic. edit: I've been searching, and I see some places selling these for about $200-300... some of them appear to be aftermarket 3rd party assemblies. Are their projectors as good as the OEM ones that are currently on my car?
GTTuner
Get the TYC aftermarket lamp and save some $$$. You could always swap your OE projector into the housing. And do some 4500K HID's, you will see better and not blind as many on-coming drivers if they are aimed properly.
iNVAR
Nah, HIDs definitely not needed. Roads are very well lit in NYC. http://www.thepartsbin.com/catalog/?N=9217+1719+11736+4294963606+11921 Are those TYC? It doesn't say... edit: Hmm, I found this thread: http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=109582&page=2 The aftermarkets might not be a good idea... mikeislord
Thats too bad. Did you check junkyards first?
iNVAR
Too much trouble. Hard to find a good junkyard in range in NYC. I used to be more frugal, but recently I'm moving more towards the mindset of "how much money is my time and effort worth" and I've decided that I have enough money now (not that I'm rich, but I'm doing decently well now) that I don't need to nickel and dime everything. My father and I usually go to Hunt's Point. Almost always find what we need. Plus, we usually call ahead of time and find out.
iNVAR
There are a ton of junkyards right by where Shea Stadium used to be... but the last few times I went there for other stuff, they were pretty useless.
Gator GT
I'm running Osram H7 65W as well and while I haven't put anything on top of the lamp, it's doing just fine. I also run mine whenever I drive. Sorry to hear that. I guess...don't put anything on top of the housing??? I'm assuming that you haven't done the "independent fog" mod yet. If you did, you could just turn on your "P" lights and have the ability to turn on the fogs and aim them w/o having the headlamps hinder your efforts. iNVAR
I thought about doing that independent fog mod... I was reading about it here not too long ago. Not sure if I want to go for it yet. Next time I'll just have someone stand in front of the light and hope his butt doesn't catch on fire.
