+1

Drop the spoiler...

Nope, dont really like them without the spoiler (or with a lip for some reason (really weird 3/4 view of the car).

Everything's painted and it looks damn good! I'll have to take pics if its nice this weekend (when I can wash the rest of the car). Spats wont be back on for another 2 weeks as I want to let the paint really cure before I put the double sided 3M tape on.

Oh and if anyone ever needs to take the rear bumper off a sedan let me know it takes me 20 mins tops while drinkin a beer.

5 start thread.

Has Jimmy, the Conversion King, posted his unique rig up in this place?

Or is he too busy stuffing containers bound for North America full of JDM parts to post here?

can you shoot me a pm or reply in the thread regarding how you did the install of the rear bumper? I'm trying to install mine this week, but still trying to keep as much of the bumper beam too.

1. You're going to either have to leave the bumper beam out (its only aluminum and is for those 5 mph impacts) or you'll have to channel the beam about 2" and know someone who can weld aluminum. I'm going to eventually channel my beam, but for now I'm sans beam as any actual JDM car does not have one either.

2. Here we go, here's how to take that sucker off. Before you do, disconnect the negative lead of the battery (better safe then sorry)

2a. Pop the trunk and remove the two plastic hooks inside the trunk by the tail lights. To remove them rotate the drivers side and passenger side hooks 90 degrees clockwise and counter-clockwise respectively (if you were in the trunk looking at them), then push them out. Next at either side of the trunk there are these black plastic caps (about 1" in diameter), pop them out and remove the 10mm bolts

2b. Now pull the trunk liner back away from the rear near both tail lights so you can loosen (5/16ths wrench) and remove the four gold nuts that hold the tails on (also remember to unhook the yellow electrical connectors for the lights). Once you do, wiggle them out and set them aside.

2c. Remove the four pop-its (two under each tail light) and then go under the rear of the car. At the rear of the bumper underside there are four more pop-its and then there is one on either side at the bottom of each wheel well (underneath the car)

2d. Now jack up the rear of the car (this is the easiest way to do the next step), either jack one side up at a time with the jack in the trunk (this is the easiest way and will get you familiar with the cars jack) or jack up the rear and put it on jack stands.

2e. Once the ass is in the air, pull the inner fender liner back into the wheel well and where the upper corner of the bumper meets the quarter-panel, about 1.5" in there is a 10mm bolt, just like the one you remove in the trunk, you cant see it, just feel around for it, one you find it, remove it (then go to the other side and do the same. The bumper is now free from the car.

2f. Gently pull both sides of the bumper away from the car (it will kinda pop out and the bumper may swing down a little bit. Go to the rear of the car and wiggle the bumper off towards you. Ta-da the ugly huge bumper is off. Now you see the giant aluminum beam, on either side there are 3 nuts that are visible through the holes (can't remember the metric size, just have your tool kit open and at the ready). remove them bitches and pull the beam off. Now if you want take it to a metal shop that can weld aluminum and have them section the beam 2" (I'm pretty sure thats the amount you need to remove, but check before you do).

2g. Alrighty on either side of the bumper there are two aluminum brackets, if your JDM bumper has these on it you're golden, if not here's what I did. Take them and bend the rear (towards the back of the bumper) tabs that overlap the bumper up (they're about a mm wide and 3mm long). Next gently pull the aluminum brackets away from the bumper and wiggle them to release the rivets from the plastic. To install them on the JDM bumper warm it up a bit so you can elongate the holes just a little bit so you can wiggle them back on through the holes (if its been sitting out in the sun for about an hr it should be good). Start at the front of the bumper where the wheel arch is and work backwards to the rear, its a bitch to do so take your time. If you really want, drill the rivets out and then replace them when you put it back on the car.

2h. Yay! Put it all back together in reverse and you're done!!!!!!!!!!! Woooooooooooo JDM time
