SoloAlex
1996 Legacy GT Sedan 160k Just wondering if anyone else has experienced a leaky trunk? I suspect it comes in through the gap between the rear of the taillight assembly and the metal. Thinking about getting some type of foam sealer. 987687
Mine leaks a tiny bit as well, and I know someone with an RS that has a pretty serious leak. Seems fairly common.
Bdubs
More than likely it is coming through that gap between the tail lights. At one point in time, it had a gasket there which had either been removed or has disintegrated over time. Just use a black silicone to plug the gap up. The water get's in the trunk pretty good. I just threw out the carpet in the trunk and the warped cardboard cover. Thanks guys, I'll report back once I seal it with silicone. 99SUS SFD
My trunk leaked last summer when I replaced the tails with JDM tails. The silicone wasn't good any more. Of course I didn't realize all of this until I went to open my trunk one day and everything was covered in mold and there was a ton of water in my spare tire well. I dried out the carpet, threw everything out, and flattened the particle board with a bunch of cinder blocks for about a week. It's flat again. I determined the exact location of the leak by running a hose on my back window and sitting in my trunk and watched the water trickle in through the tail lights. Platinum_Racing
Replace the weather stripping. They sell all kinds of universal weather stripping at most Hardware/autoparts stores, and it's fairly inexpensive. I'd recommend getting the best kind you can since the adhesives will probably be better. You could also go the OEM route and get some online... Thats what I was thinking. That gap right behind the tailight assembly. I don't think I'll go OEM but some kind of sealer will do the trick. I'll be doing it this weekend. I can't wait. 99SUS SFD
I just used some marine grade silicone and haven't had any problems since.

Of course I didn't realize all of this until I went to open my trunk one day and everything was covered in mold and there was a ton of water in my spare tire well. Exact same thing happened to me. I just pulled out the lights and redid the silicone all the way around and they've been perfect since. My 9.3 cups EJ22 makes me feel like my **** is 2.8 decimeters!
