welby
Quick question; I recently bought a stock UP from a member and gutted it. When I put it in, is there any harm in just putting the EGT probe back in, or should I just plug the hole? What are the odds of the probe breaking and trashing the turbo? Not sure I like the sound of that, really. If I plug it, what size bolt do I need? Also, looking at it, it looks like it'd have to be really short, like around 1/2" long, tops. Thanks. Mr. Sinister
Plug it for the reason that you've already stated.

NSFW
I'm running an Invidia UP with the EGT in place and hooked up. I've heard people say it can break off and trash the turbo, but I have yet to hear a first-hand report of this so I assume it's rare. Not sure if I'll keep it when I install a bigger turbo though. BillyJoe
i'm running an Invidia Catless up pipe and the bolt i'm using to plug the egt bung is M12 X 1.50 M12 is the diameter in mm, and the 1.50 is the thread pitch. i found the shortest stainless steel bolt available around my area, and ground it down even shorter to fit. If you're lucky to find the right size, you'll be extremely lucky to find the right length without having to chop it down. Good luck...

NSFW
http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110997 Interesting, thanks. Anyone know if aftermarket EGT sensors are any more reliable than stock?

mwiener2
Anyone know if aftermarket EGT sensors are any more reliable than stock? They are if you buy one with a high enough rating. Stock one starts to crap out around 1800 degrees F. You want one that goes as high as possible.... at least 2200. around 5 years ago, an EGT sensor was considered one of the 'mandatory' gauges that you should have right next to boost and oil pressure. Since then, I hardly see them.. for sale or installed in cars. They've pretty much been thrown aside in favor of a wideband.
