SpeedNeeder
I just got a set from TireRack for my Legacy GT Ltd. The tires are asymmetrical and are clearly marked which side goes out. I noticed the tires all have the exact same tread though, meaning that if I put them on, the grooves in the tread on one side of the care will be opposite of the grooves on the other side of the car, if that makes sense. I cannot find any marking on the tires about being directional, or right side/left side, but when I think about it, seems like all tires like this have to have a left and right side. Does anyone know if the tire has a right and left side version? Does this make any sense? My other car is a 1993 Chevy S-10 Tahoe! Mr. Sinister
Since they are not directional, as long as the correct side is facing outwards, it will be correct. I actually just went out to check (good thing I did too, found a short screw sticking out of one of the tires) and the side with the parallel grooves will be on the inner side of the car. Makes sense, since the water channels will be channeling water outwards.
SpeedNeeder
Thanks for the input. Seems like the outside grooves on one side of the car will push water forward, while the grooves outside grooves on the other side of the care will push water backwards? DuckFan
just put a set on my '06 OB 3.0R. Yes they are asymetrical as the tires have a outside and a inside label. Tire rotation should be front to back, back to front. The straightline siphening tread or all season zone should be on the inside. If they are on the outside then the tires are mounted incorrectly. Bimmer
Sorry to resurrect this dead thread... I just got a set of four of these for my Outback XT. I guess these really are supposed to be unidirectional, but my vague notion of how tires work makes me think they shouldn't be. Like Speedneeder, I'm looking at these, and it looks like I've got four "left" tires that should go on the driver's side, so that the big grooves push water to the outside. It looks like if these are mounted on the passenger side, then they'll be channeling water towards the middle of the tire. Yes they are asymetrical as the tires have a outside and a inside label. Tire rotation should be front to back, back to front. AFAIK, this is flat wrong. Directional tires have to be rotated front-back (not side-side), because otherwise they're going backwards. Asymetrical tires like these can be rotated side-to-side, because the outside of the tire is always going to be on the outside of the wheel.
