GTTuner
I bought my Vag-com cable and plan on twiddling with some tuning. Question; Perrin makes a tube to relocate the MAF on the outlet side of the FMIC. Does this tube fit an LGT and has anyone tried this? It's suppose to give better MAF readings and more accurate IAT's? The tube is bulged out where the MAF is located so I assume scaling will be required. Any inputs or thoughts on this? Tuning noob here, another question; Should I read my e-tune ROM image and start from there? \Thanks Paul
rao
If the FMIC fits without using a blow through MAF don't mess with it. Rob IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR CAR YOU SHOULD NEVER DRIVE IT
GTTuner
Thanks rao, Perrin makes it sound like the cats meow on the web site. I'm going to log a few pulls with open source and post them up. I never tuned my car for the FMIC after install. Right now, using ECU explorer my KC is +6 all the way thru. Why would I want to pull timing before adjusting AFR's and boost if I see no knock? rao
Most manufacturers don't talk about how their priducts will ruin your life The timing issue is a different question. If you are consistently adding timing at a certain range, there is nothing wrong with changng the timing table in that region to make the change permanent (it sill still be subject to the KC control). Spec B
a couple of suggestions.. - you should use Romraider to log and pick the knock sum parameter..this shows you exactly when there is a knock event. - If you added an intake with your FMIC you will need to scale the Maf. - If you have an etune and if it was done via Cobb it is likely that most of the important tune stuff is in the real time map (which you cannot see with romraider or ECU flash) - Blow through maf is not a necessity, but it would probably make tuning a little easier. For instance, since the Maf sensor measures temp and maf before the turbo and FMIC, you will have to account for the delay between the maf reading and the air actually reaching your intake manifold and the resulting temp change. - you should get a WB02...makes things much easier. NSFW
I'm planning to go blow-through on my car. I dunno about FMICs in general but if my car is representative then having the MAF upstream of the FMIC pretty much sucks. My AFR goes rich about a second after I hit the gas, then lean a second or two after that. It's not a MAF scaling issue because the AFR error doesn't vary with MAF, it varies with time at the same MAF. The rich dip is corroborated by plenty of people with FMIC'd Subarus, but the following lean spike isn't, so I'm not 100% sure that's caused by the FMIC... but it would be very easy to mistake for a MAF scaling issue if you do most of your pulls under the same conditions (e.g. WOT on level ground). So I'm hoping blow-through will give me accurate MAF readings. After re-scaling of course.
