09Limited
Hi all, Today I picked up a 2009 Subaru Legacy 3.0R Limited with nav. I know from test driving other Legacys that the nav systems have an "auto" light feature where, when you turn the headlights on and it is dark outside, the nav screen goes from "day" mode to "night" mode (the graphics turn mainly black and other dark colors, as compared to bright white in the day time). However, on my car, even though under the nav's user settings I have the backlight set on "auto" (where it should automatically switch to night mode at night), the night mode never engages. The screen is always in "day" mode, no matter how bright or dark it is outside. In order to get the screen to "night" mode, I have to manually select it under User Options. Anyone have any explanation? Like I said above, I was fiddling around with another Legacy inside the dealership and the nav screen automatically switched to night mode when I turned on the headlights, but mine's not doing that. Thanks.
sic GT
Be sure the dash light dimmer switch is all the way rotated into the brightest setting ( it will click into a semi locked position). That might solve it.
Mr. Sinister
Try dimming the gauge cluster lights.
zmarko
If your dash illumination switch is all the way to the brightest setting, the NAV screen won't go to "night" setting. Make sure it's "one click down" from the brightest setting.
09Limited
Wow, thanks guys! This is exactly the reason why I love all car forum websites. You just saved me a phone call to the dealership, where they probably wouldn't have even known the answer. I just went out to my car and you were right - once I pushed the switch down one notch, night mode engaged. Again, thank you. P.S. anyone else surprised that the car has no glovebox light and no footwell lights? Even my 1999 Buick Regal GS, which I just traded in today, had these! zmarko
It might be in the car's owners manual.
