c-lo
Piece of metal punctured my back driverside tire. puncture is on the inside of the last tread before the sidewall. make sense? Sears wouldn't patch it because "we are sears, and we don't patch z rated tires". Pep boys did but explained that it would lose its "z" rating. Since I don't drive 100+ miles/hour I had it patched. any issues I should be looking at in the future or am I safe? 258k miles - Stock engine/minor suspension upgrades/original shocks/rear struts replaced at 222k/4 passenger side wheel bearings/3 clutches/1 radiator/3 turbos
PeterJMC
Goodyear patched my Z rated tires. I've had no problems at all
RochNY91TSI
It loses the Z rating b/c there's some damage to the integrity of the tire. Should still be fine for driving around on though. Did you actually have a plug put in, or a patch from the inside?
cseagle08
Plug, I wouldn't trust that at speed, but I've had many a patch from the inside on Y rated rubber (186 mph+) done at Sears and at Discount Tire and taken it up to 140mph a few times and it held just fine. PeterJMC
Is it possible to plug AND patch? It's def plugged. There is a nice thin round chunk of rubber in there that wasn't part of the original tire.
cseagle08
I don't think it's possible to use a separate plug and patch. the patch is really called a plug/patch, it has like a big nipple that goes thru the puncture. http://classic.artsautomotive.com/TirePatch.htm
