Time for picture whorins'.:lol:She was an '03 (non-S:rolleyes:) but was a 5spd. I had a cold air and a Borla on by the time I traded it in. British Racing Green, tan leather, cold weather package, premium package, xenons.

Miata and s2000 dont have a back seat

Back seat riding in a convertible really sucks... Wind from all directions.

OK, it can prove amusing in some cases, but it won't be nice to the passengers in the rear seat at any speed above city speed with the top down.

since a FWD was listed, what about toyota solara?

it may not give a "man" image but it will last reliably for very long time.

gag.

If you are going to go that route, the new Volvo C70 replacement is coming out with a convertible hard top.

At least it is a volvo, not a toyota solara. (I shudder at the mention of Solara.)

BTW, G37 and IS are both coming to market with convertible hard top versions, as well... G37 could be interesting... and RWD...

Didn't the 1st minis have a 1.6L Chrysler design(read Neon) motor built by BMW?

This engine was actually manufactured by Tritec Motors in Brazil, I know one of the mechanical engineers down there (Simply because he is my cousin!!!)

The joint venture between BMW and Daimler/Chrysler at the time was to build 4 cylinder engines in Brazil for their cars, and Mini was one of them...

Very reliable engine by the way, now the electronics on it, not so sure...

The new engine is a PSA Peugeot Citroen joint venture where the majority of the engineering was done by BMW, while PSA just handles building.

From the engine outputs of 114hp for NA and 140 for the Direct Injectedturbo one, its not rare to say that BMW had gone slightly overboard for just mediocre outputs - seen on other "less premium" engines across the world too.

Its no secret that the focus of these engines are on economy and refinement. A concern is really the weight of these engines:

The NA version weighs in at 114kg, which is only 3kg shy from being as heavy as the Mercedes A-class' 2.0L turbo engine.

The most shocking is the turboed version which is actually 10kg heavier than PSA's own 1.6Hdi at 130kg.

So not so sure the plans for Mini cars in the US, but definitely engine performance is not one of them. It's widely seen on Peugeot 207's and Citreoen C4's all over the world (C4 is a pretty nice car btw!!!) and possibly 120's/320's or other 4 cyl BMW cars... Of course the American market doesn't get those models...

Hope this helps!
