Who has AutoX'ed their 2.5i?

Recommended Posts

I say go for it and don't worry about SOA issues. They can likely download the rpm/speed info at the dealership if they are really concerned about the warranty work, but what evidence would they have that the specific damage, if any occurs, happened at a track and not on the street somewhere??

In in any case you might be surprised how well your 2.5i will do, I know I was quite impressed with mine on the Autobahn's course in Joliet last year. I couldn't take my Mustang due to part issues, so I brought my wagon and had a total blast on course. Best part was a Corvette C5 spinning out trying to accellerate through the turns with me...gotta love the AWD!!

BTW, all season Yoko's scream all the way around the track!

So based on your pics above, I should not steal my mother's S2K and run it, right?

I tried to get my father to come with me and run either his 1-owner, all original '75 280Z or my mother's '03 S2K, but he won't. He said that he'd co-drive the E36 with me, but I sold it. Wow, all indications are that I need another E36.

In the meantime, it sounds like the 2.5i is going to see some light autoX time...

Those little S2K's were an annoyance on the track, they could barely outrun me on the straights, but they always caught me on the turns... Seeing a 280Z on the track would be very cool, you don't see too many of them any more. A '78 popped up at a local car show back about 5 years ago (see below), nice restoration and the guy was also an original owner, go figure.

Throw some good tires on yours and add some biggers sways and you should have a lot of fun.

Do they make you run with your windows down in that slop? Sorry...

I wish the place I autoxed would wet the track down, that would be awesome, fun, and advantageous to us.

No, we had them down just so that I did not somehow bust a window with my helmet. Plus, it was not actually raining when we ran. I got a tiny bit of water on the top of the inside door panes, but nothing really got into the car.

And the track was not artificially wetted down- it had rained all night and into the morning.

I'm 100% stock. I need to do some suspension mods this summer.

Same here- bone stock. Those were loaner wheels and tires, however. My stock Yokos would have been squeeling like pigs!

That is awesome! I only asked cause it looked like you had mud and what not right behind the mirrors and it looked like it could run up into the car.

And I have never heard of loaner wheels/tires! That is not fair...:spin:

They were "lonaer" wheels tat I borrowed from my co-driver, who had them for his WRX. He had an engine problem and is still in the break-in period on the new motor, so we both drove my car, but used his tires.

The mirrors definately bore the brunt of the mud that was flung. I was impressed with how clean the interior stayed. Well, the FLOOR got filthy, since you have to pull the floor mats...

I ran my 2.5i with suspension. It kept up with my buddy's wrx. .. it's really not about the car as much as it is about the driver. Tape your bumpers and side skirts and take it to an event, do the SCCA novice school. And push it as much as you are comfortable.

Wish I could find something like this around here, I would have so much fun! I already have the rallitek swaybar kit plus avo rear endlinks, swift springs and koni struts, and 205/50/17 Falkens, so I think this little car would hold up just fine. Its amazing how well this car handles now. I was at a stoplight today doing a U-turn, completely floored it all the way around, the car stayed flat the whole time, no body roll at all....amazing.

I used to autocross my 97 LGt that had a NA 2.5. The low end torque of those motors made up for the fact the have alot less power than the 05+ LGT. Some suspension mods would make it more fun.

Why? They run on the high beams, so they don't interfere with my HIDs, and they're a safety feature I'd rather keep.

Eh, there are a few threads around with a list of reasons why they are not actually a safety feature so I won't get into that.

Also they cause more wear on your bulbs that are usually unnecessary. 80% of the time you'll be driving around in the daytime right? No need for DRL's then. And at night, sometimes DRL's will make you forget you don't have your low beams on, which is actually MORE dangerous. Happened to me a lot until I disabled them.

Yes the 'safety' issue about it may be debateable.

Forgetting to put your lights on at night? I have a hard time agreeing with anyone who says this about the Legacy. The DRLs are so weak, at least in this car, that it's VERY obvious when your headlights are not on. I agree that on some other cars, it's less obvious, but for the Legacy, not at all.

I get out of work at 11:30 at night, and some nights I was just so tired I would drive around with my lights off for miles before realizing they weren't on. Its not that obvious, especially when you are sleep deprived.

Well, it seems like we have strayed from the autox topic. I see you drive an 06. Your DRLs are normal nighttime running lights. In the 08-09, it is obvious when you don't have normal lights on. It's almost pitch dark without the regular lights on.
