brake cleaner

Recommended Posts

Just got back from my vacation. I left the car sitting for 3 weeks. The first time I saw the car, I noticed that there was rust on the rotors. I didn't mind because I know that it is normal. I drove it and I hear noise while braking. It sounds like *wooom woom woom wooom* while on the brakes. any good brake cleaner product out there? maybe it will help get rid of the noise.

Thanks! (I dont know how to describe the noise ) woom woooom wooom wooom...:lol:

My rotors had surface rust on them in about 15 min while I was at the coin-op car wash. And no, I would neve use the brushes in those places, just the high-power soap and spot-fee rinse for a quicky. Man I can't wait to be able to get back in my garage.

I have been driving the car for 3 days now. I guess it will go away when I wash the car this saturday. :D

3 days...

Are you trying to tell us the rotors are warped ?

Does the steering wheel shimmy when you step on the brake ?

Is the rust just on the outer edge of the rotor ?

Seriously - check both sides of the rotors. The calipers may be stuck on the guiding pins, so you probably have to remove the calipers and clean and re-lubricate the guiding pins for the calipers.

I had to replace my rotors and pads because the calipers had stuck. It's just a dirty work, not hard. Having to replace the rotors for a simple maintenance failure is just a thing that can ruin your day.

This only applies if you have floating calipers, if you have calipers with pistons from both sides it's possible that you have a stuck piston if you are unlucky.

It's possible that this is an issue for you, but it may also help to take a ride with some inspired driving to get rid of the problem. Just let the brakes cool off before you park.

well today I went on a spirited brake driving...;)

At high speeds 50+mph, when I brake I dont hear anything, but when I brake at lower speed 30mph and below, I still hear the woom woooom woom. I will flush it later with water and maybe clean the car and will check again. any suggestions? its a 08' with 6500+ miles on it.
