Replica STi Trunk Lip Spoiler Install

I'm finally getting around to installing the lip spoiler I got from RavSpec way back when and thought I'd get some input before I started to drill me some holes.

I started by just laying the template down on the lid but that wasn't accurate enough for me (especially since there's really only one shot at this to get it right). So I laid out some guide tape so I'd be able to measure the template lines from multiple locations to ensure a symmetrical fit. At the end of all the measuring, I'm about 1mm off from the right to left sides which is close enough (I think).

Now, for those of you that have installed this already, where did you drill the holes? When I mock-fitted the lip on the indicated circles, the lip stuck way too far out of my taste. I found that if I pushed it inwards about 1-2cm, the lip would be flush with the end of the trunk (which I prefer). Thoughts?

Oh, and what did you guys use to connect the tail light to the stock wiring harness? Did you just tap the line with a vampire splice or something?

Okay, well, I went forward and did more work on the trunk. I used the tape just as a guide to align the paper template and drilled me some holes. I also went to Pep Boys and picked up some male/female clips (using the 20-22 gauge one I think) for the brake lights. I didn't get a picture of it, but the female clip is wrapped in plastic just to prevent any grounding from the clips touching the trunk lid. Also not shown is me using q-tips to apply primer on the holes and then some paint. I also didn't take a picture of me wrapping the studs with plumber's putty (in an attempt to make it weather-proof).

Before I put the lip on, I cleaned the trunk and then applied some sealant just because I'm not going to be able to get under the lip after this, so why not. Anyways, I finally put the lip on and I can't wait until I can get it swapped onto the car. :)

You mean something like this...?

So the first picture is my baby missing a major part of her shell. I thought about replacing the arms instead of just the lid so I pulled the side trim off. The wire coming out on the right is the trunk release cable.

The second and third ones are the clips I used to wire the third brake light and then some messy zip tie work to get the extra wire out of the way.

And.. the last few are what you're all looking for. All in all, not too bad to get it all done. Just a lot of measuring to get it just right (but it feels like I could have moved it in another 5-10mm and it would have looked a little better, in my eyes)

I'm not familiar with what's being offered now but what I received a couple of years back had 4 bolts that needed to be secured, with nuts through the trunk lid, and then the power line for the light tapped into the harness on the trunk lid.

So if you get the one with the light you HAVE to drill?

i think what he is trying to say is if you get one without a light, can you just mount it with double sided tape or would it have to be drilled regardless.

i think...right?

as in, is the drilling and holes really only to pull wires through or is it also to secure the spoiler

Drilling holes for the wire to go through, the one i'm looking at uses 3M Car double sided tape and will not come off.
